If that already sounds mind-blowing, it's artistically extravagant in the creative gears that turn its two-dimensional, or even 5-dimensional, gameplay mechanics--metaphorically at least. The game starts wandering the streets of some strange alternative 1950's cityscape and blows open a new case to investigate with a bang, a big bang. Yes, that one. In this review, I'll talk about the game--and also talk to you about a new project I'm working on involving space exploration in games. - [Indie Games and Retro Games Are Both Awesome](https://mrdavepizza.com/i-just-like-retro-games-better-than-indie-games-now/) - As many of you might know, I put my heart and soul into indie games for multiple years here and on YouTube. They are my foundation as a content creator and serious gamer. They are why I started this blog, mostly due to the budgetary ease of finding games to dissect and write about, like - [What's the Best Way to Play Stardew Valley? PC vs. Console vs. Mobile?](https://mrdavepizza.com/whats-the-best-way-to-play-stardew-valley-pc-vs-console-vs-mobile/) - Share this post: Stardew Valley is one of the most beloved farming simulation games–a true indie classic, and I have covered it many times throughout this website and my YouTube channel. But with a game so popular comes the push for many different versions, systems, and formats to play—PC, Console, and Mobile—so, how do you - [Why This Seven Year Old Space Game is Awesome](https://mrdavepizza.com/no-mans-sky-is-the-space-game-everyone-wanted/) - Well, I realize I'm hecka late to this space party, but I usually am when it comes to games, so let's just dive right in. In this post, I want to share my thoughts on No Man's Sky seven years after the game has been released. As a game initially riddled with problems, much like - [The Nintendo Wii Is Still Great For Families on a Budget](https://mrdavepizza.com/why-the-nintendo-wii-is-a-still-a-great-option-for-families/) - Share this post: The new year is quickly approaching, and I’m feeling more festive than I ever have in the past. I’ve been working on my eBay game shop and selling various Nintendo items as well as other goodies for Santa. And while working through my inventory, I thought of a great idea for an - [Positivity as a Gamer Geek and a Real Human](https://mrdavepizza.com/positivity-as-a-gamer-geek-and-a-real-human/) - I've been doing content creation since the beginning of the pandemic, and it started off for me with such high hopes despite the bleak circumstances. I hope to impart some wisdom onto you as to why I continue to make things for this website, my YouTube channel, and why sometimes creating things requires a unique - [The Dungeons & Dragons Tarot Deck - Useful Tips For Beginners](https://mrdavepizza.com/how-to-use-the-dungeons-dragons-tarot/) - Well, I tried to delete this article, because it's sort of random compared to most of my regular gaming content, but man you guys love this article! Whether you know it by its formal name, D&D, The Forgotten Realms, or just DnD, I have a few tips on Wizards of the Coast's 2022 The Dungeons - [Why I Intentionally Slow my Game Download Speed](https://mrdavepizza.com/tech-time-quick-guide-to-limit-bandwidth-when-downloading/) - In this tutorial, I'll quickly explain how to throttle bandwidth in popular apps like Google Chrome, Steam, and Xbox Game Pass. Most folks just want to download games and videos as fast as possible. However, if you are on a network that contains home devices, background apps, streaming services, and multiple people, this can slow - [Xbox Game Pass Is THE Place for Free(ish) Indies](https://mrdavepizza.com/how-to-get-xbox-game-pass-on-pc/) - I'm not attempting to upsell you the service--although I'd certainly take credit, simply because it's truly one of the best gaming services out there and sells itself. You need Game Pass if you play major game titles or even indies, it's just a must to keep up. You can play day-one releases as well as past releases from Bethesda, EA, as well as tons of mid-tier indies. The setup is easy so I'll just make a quick reference here if you're wishing to try it out. - [Why I Literally Want to Be James Halliday From Ready Player One](https://mrdavepizza.com/why-i-literally-want-to-be-james-halliday/) - "James Halliday, he was like a god." This is not a review, showcase, or anything, but it is a narrative I feel like rolling with. This topic entered my mind a long time ago when I first saw the film version of Ready Player One, and then later when I read the book. Then when I surrendered the dream in Ready Player Two (it's an acquired taste, no dismissiveness or negativity here!) Ever since... well, ever... ever since I can even remember, I've been compulsively enamored with the idea of digital realities--virtual reality, cyberspace, the Matrix, the Oasis, the Grid, Metaverse, what have you. The thing about the fictional character James Halliday is he made it all seem kind of obtainable. Welcome to virtual pizzality. Read on, should you wish to obtain the egg... - [Geeks Mania Arcade in Madison Has New & Classic Thrills](https://mrdavepizza.com/geeks-mania-arcade-in-madison-has-new-classic-thrills/) - Well, I've been holding onto this little side trip to Geeks Mania since around March of last year, but since I enjoy writing up these little gaming destinations for you, I'm still going to make it happen. I absolutely want to share more about this wonderful little arcade just off of US Highway 14 in - [Gar-Type by Lumpy is a Horrifying Gorefield SHMUP on Itch.IO](https://mrdavepizza.com/gar-type-is-a-free-pixel-art-shmup-a-fun-if-not-horrifying-game-on-itch-io/) - If you go onto Itch.IO right now, you can play a space blaster game called Gar-Type by a small developer named Lumpy. So many weird chemicals are going through my brain after this game. I've been captivated by the Gorefield trend since I first played Lasagna Boy back in 2020, a hide and seek platformer - [I Watched an Old VHS Documentary From the 80s About UFOs](https://mrdavepizza.com/ufos-miracle-of-the-unknown-review/) - Okay, it's official, ViCtoRia the VCR is ONLINE. This idea came to me in a late-night deep meditation. I was thinking: what can I do that's a cut above the rest? My Ancient Aliens review was a blast. Perhaps I could find something that would be a little less obvious. So, anyway, here it is. I got this RCA VCR on eBay as well as a few VHS tapes to test and I got started. Out of sentimentality, I am continuing the UFO theme with a two-tape set documentary called UFOs Miracle of the Unknown. It was more interesting than I had anticipated. - [Best of Ancient Aliens on DVD is What I Watched Today](https://mrdavepizza.com/best-of-ancient-aliens-dvd-review/) - So, I've been wanting to sit down with this show and see what it was all about kind of recently when I was working on my space theme. If you're unfamiliar with the Ancient Aliens program from History Channel, let me explain it a bit--most likely you know of it though. The idea is to take a regular historical documentary, throw in a thesis that aliens actually had a major role in ancient civilizations on Earth, then sit back as an eccentric level ensemble of experts deconstruct your entire reality, and it is epic. - [How to Play Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Heroes in a Half Shell Card Game (1990)](https://mrdavepizza.com/how-to-play-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-heroes-in-a-half-shell-card-game-1990/) - Share this post: “TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLESHeroes in a HalfshellINSTRUCTIONS AGES: 5 and upPLAYERS: 2 to 6 OBJECT: Be the last player with “Turtles” letters remaining on your score sheet. I've always had a casual interest in retro computing in addition to gaming. I even have an Apple ][ in my possession and have visited my share of BBS back in the day. I'd honestly never heard of the Amiga though until I checked out this documentary called Viva Amiga. Let's talk about it. - [Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the TMNT - A Review](https://mrdavepizza.com/turtle-power-definitive-tmnt-history-review/) - Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a DVD documentary from Paramount Pictures, released in 2014. It covers every topic of TMNT lore like the comic book origins of Mirage's Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. Or how uncomfortable the turtle suits were for the actors in the motion pictures released in the 90s. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is one of the most legendary hallmarks of the later 20th century and beyond. From the adults whose childhood thrived on the cartoons and movies to the fervor of today's initiated youth. Almost everybody knows of them, and most likely are cool with them in some form, maybe even have a favorite turtle--mine's Donatello. Anyway, I took up the bo staff of this cultural journey and I've got some gems for you right now. - [Indie Game: The Movie is An Essential Documentary For Game Devs](https://mrdavepizza.com/indie-game-the-movie-review/) - Indie Game: The Movie is, suitably, a 2011 indie documentary made by Canadian Filmmakers about indie video games. It cracks open the shell of contemporary indie game development by following a handful of developers as they make their first games and bring them to market. It evokes the struggle of the indie game business model and follows artists and programmers through lows and highs of this personal journey. This film had moments of absolute enchantment but also discomfort. I want to give this a chance though, because I took something very real and personal from this documentary. - [Quantum Leap - Last Call at Al's: A Tribute to Dean Stockwell](https://mrdavepizza.com/quantum-leap-last-call-at-als-a-tribute-to-dean-stockwell/) - One of the best actors in Hollywood passed away in the past couple of days at age 85. Dean Stockwell, the actor/artist/environmentalist/cigar-enthusiast, is notably remembered for his role as Al Calavicci in the '80s/'90s TV time travel show Quantum Leap. I had always intended to talk about Quantum Leap here somewhere since it is one of the most influential productions I have ever spent time with, "within my own lifetime." With the news about Mr. Stockwell, I guess maybe this is a good time. - [The World Before Your Feet Review](https://mrdavepizza.com/the-world-before-your-feet-the-documentary-about-a-man-who-sets-out-to-walk-every-foot-of-new-york-review/) - The World Before Your Feet is an independent documentary about a gentleman named Matt Green, hailing from--well, anywhere he goes, which is everywhere in New York City, every street, every block. He considers himself independently homeless, sufficing on $15 a day so he can afford to keep walking without a job. This is an interesting film as a concept and project. It highlights the human intricacies of finding purpose, especially purposes not motivated by conventional profit or advantage. I think if you're from New York or have an interest in its complexities, as I've always had, this is a pretty interesting, relatively efficient feature. - [K. Thompson's Sabrina the Teenage Witch (2019) is Smart and Biting](https://mrdavepizza.com/comic-books-sabrina-the-teenage-witch-volume-1-review/) - Sabrina the Teenage Witch (2019-) is a new comic book incarnation of the epic story settings of its namesake, written by author Kelly Thompson, artists Veronica Fish and Andy Fish, and letterer/author Jack Morelli. Readers can expect, delightfully, a contemporary imagining of the long-time universe of Sabrina The Teenage Witch, her two spell weaving aunts, and their speaking cat Salem, plus a whole ton of high school drama that is just as much a part of the series as anything. This review of Volume 1 covers issues #1-5 of this series, or in other words, Volume 1. - [By Night by John Allison and Christine Larsen: Volume 1](https://mrdavepizza.com/comic-books-by-night-volume-1-review/) - Jane Langstaff is a technician at a biomedical lab in Spectrum, South Dakota. Lately, she's been feeling things haven't panned out for her after college as much as she would have liked. In a turn of fate, she bumps into a somewhat estranged but best friend from high school, Heather Meadows. While in many ways things have changed significantly since they last saw each other, Jane and Heather find themselves into their old hijinks in a small-town night adventure with the aid of some plucked security keys at the Charleswood Estate within no time, although Jane might have some feelings of hesitancy about it. It doesn't take long before they discover something very mysterious, perhaps even mystical in the midnight of some urban exploration. - [Another Kind: Cryptid Fun Hits Shelves, New Graphic Novel](https://mrdavepizza.com/another-kind-cryptid-kids-hit-shelves-fun-ya-teen-graphic-novel-review/) - I'm thrilled to bring you another installment in my comic/book reviews, which really needs to be here to fulfill my original mission. Without a doubt, I'm tirelessly releasing indie game reviews with young adult/teen-friendly connotations. I've only recently figured out that my posts are more appropriate for this encompassed audience and that yes, I can finally write about anything and not seem too out of context intentionally. So in addition to games, let's start a new trend by talking about this debut graphic novel from creators Cait May and Trevor Bream and publishing project Harper Alley known as Another Kind, a story about a group of cryptid youth government compound runaways on a mission to find safety and also learn more about their identities. - [Pumpkinheads: Awesome Comic About Two Friends And Fall Food](https://mrdavepizza.com/pumpkinheads-seasonal-wholesome-graphic-novel-for-all-review/) - This is another teen and YA appropriate, plus seasonally appropriate, review. Pumpkinheads is a very endearing and amusing graphic novel released pre-pandemic. It is the creation of author Rainbow Rowell and author / illustrator Faith Erin Hicks. It follows the tale of two friends, Deja and Josiah, who work at a pumpkin patch, on their last Halloween night before they go off to college. Instead of their assigned task of working as succotash cooks, Deja tries to insist Josiah do something about his multiple year spanning fascination with the girl who works at the fudge shop. - [You Can Go Your Own Way by Eric Smith](https://mrdavepizza.com/you-can-go-your-own-way-by-eric-smith-pinball-love-in-philly-ya-book-review/) - While the industry in the gaming business model changes, Adam's family's pinball arcade and Whitney's eSports Cafe are in direct competition with each other, and consequently Adam and Whitney. You Can Go Your Own Way by Eric Smith is a November 2021 release YA book about two childhood friends, Adam Stillwater and Whitney Mitchell. They have gotten knee-deep in running their parents' businesses as their parents are either too busy or in Adam's father's case, not there. Through firey tweet threads and a plot that takes place almost entirely in the market area of Old City Philadelphia, the two find out that maybe they can restore their childhood friendship after all--or try at least. I truly adored this book, and I'll tell you all about it here. - [The Comic Book Story of Video Games Review](https://mrdavepizza.com/the-comic-book-story-of-video-games-a-graphic-novel-review/) - I've had this graphic novel sitting on my shelf for too long, setting aside a good time to sit down with it. These past couple of days, however, I've been flipping from page to page this excellently illustrated and narrated journey through the history of video games. I completed it last night and enjoyed it quite a bit. I never knew that so many unlikely events lead up to the powerhouse of video games that exists today. Seeing as the website I run here is currently undergoing a blend of games and books, I think this is a perfect topic for us all here. So, without further ado, let's light some diodes and insert a quarter with The Comic Book Story of Video Games: The Incredible Journey of the Electronic Revolution. "Let's a-go!" - [Bebop and Rocksteady Make a Terrific & Toxic Duo](https://mrdavepizza.com/bebop-and-rocksteady-hit-the-road-1-funky-and-slightly-insane/) - Well, I guess this review is going to be a trial attempt at an idea I've had. It takes me days to churn out a full volume review, which I don't really mind or anything, but it's nice to just pick something up for about the length it takes me to create solo dev showcases. Anyway, whatever, so today I'm taking a look at Bebop and Rocksteady Hit the Road Issue 1. I have to confess,Well, I guess this review is going to be a trial attempt at an idea I've had. It takes me days to churn out a full volume review, which I don't really mind or anything, but it's nice to just pick something up for about the length it takes me to create solo dev showcases. Anyway, whatever, so today I'm taking a look at Bebop and Rocksteady Hit the Road Issue 1. I have to confess, I thought I was reading Bebop and Rocksteady Destroy Everything, which is an entirely different series apparently. This one is good too though, and Bebop and Rocksteady's dimwitted fully loaded antics are just as good here as they could be anywhere. Anyway, my idea here is, instead of trying to conquer every individual volume collection, I can taste a bit of everything for you and provide a swath of curated comics. So, let's go. - [Highlights From The 2024 Midwest Gaming Classic](https://mrdavepizza.com/the-midwest-gaming-classic-is-a-retro-gamers-paradise/) - This April, I grabbed an Amtrak train from a small Illinois town and headed to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The reason? To visit the 2024 Midwest Gaming Classic at the Baird Center in Downtown Milwaukee. It's an annual trade show that celebrates gaming in all its forms with vendors selling used games and cool merchandise, free to - [Visiting Arcadia: America's Playable Arcade Museum](https://mrdavepizza.com/visiting-arcadia-americas-playable-arcade-museum/) - Share this post: This weekend, I had a very fun opportunity to visit Arcadia: America’s Playable Arcade Museum in McLean, Illinois. Arcadia is located just off of Route 66 right outside of Bloomington. Started in 2009, the arcade is the passion project of owner John Yates and is home to loads of retro hard to - [2025 Midwest Gaming Classic (Late) Review & Photo Dump](https://mrdavepizza.com/2025-midwest-gaming-classic-late-review-photo-dump/) - Back for another convention, yes I have returned to the Midwest Gaming Classic for 2025 and have wonderful things to say. This post is a bit late, since the convention was, and typically is, in April, but it's been a wild year with not much time to update my blog. So, here we go! As - [City of Heroes is The Best MMORPG That's Now Defunct](https://mrdavepizza.com/city-of-heroes/) - Well, quick FYI, City of Heroes hasn't had a live official server in years. There was never anything wrong with it. I'm not really sure why they even shut it down, many people today still would like to play it. But I guess they just felt it was dated or didn't make money, or they - [How to Transfer Nintendo Switch Screen Captures to Your PC with USB](https://mrdavepizza.com/transfer-switch-screenshots-via-usb/) - The ability to transfer screenshots from the Nintendo Switch can be ironically confusing with all the support for social media the console has. There are a lot of content creators out there, and when it comes to finding media, which is one reason these Switch screenshots can be almost crucial. Most devices with USB capability have almost complicit plug-and-play, the Nintendo Switch mostly does too--almost. In this brief tutorial, I'll tell you how to transfer switch screenshots via USB with no problems. This includes videos captured onto the Switch as well. Let's get started. - [Make Dialogue Sound Effects With Tyranobuilder](https://mrdavepizza.com/dialogue-sound-effects/) - Welcome back to another article in my how-to series for gamers and game makers. Today I’ll be talking about making a dialogue blip sound effect in Tyranobuilder free! Sometimes known as dialogue blip. You might be able to use this in Ren’Py or VN Maker, or even other dev projects. Tyranobuilder is where I’ve staked my claim though right now. The sound effect is universally compatible though, just change the part where you actually implement to the protocol for whatever tool you are using. Okay, let’s get started. - [Making a Simple Platformer With Godot](https://mrdavepizza.com/godot-tilemaps/) - Let's talk about GoDot tilemaps. Have you ever played a 2D platformer or Metroidvania and wanted to know how it is made? Maybe you are already making one. I'm back for another insight into the cryptic, enigmatic, secretive, open-source world of indie game development. Tongue-in-cheek there. But I am reaching out to you devs out there to talk about some very useful primary knowledge in GoDot TileMaps! - [Some Resources For Using Non-Copyright Music in a GameDev](https://mrdavepizza.com/copyright-free-music-game-dev-resources/) - When I went to learn what was involved in making my visual novel, this surprisingly was not so simple. Do not get me wrong, I'm here to give you the goods, but when it comes to music, graphics, or anything really, the way copyright protection works is stern yet often confusing. So, let me get - [Visual Novel Background Creation Can Be Easy and Free](https://mrdavepizza.com/free-visual-novel-background-images/) - Welcome, inspired readers, writers, and ambitious game devs to a new tutorial to assist in your personal game dev projects and how to make free visual novel background images at no cost. I've been truly inspired by how many people visited my character generator tutorial, that I'm back for another. I mostly cover indie game highlights with several visual novel reviews. But I am also developing a visual novel in Tyranobuilder, which you can find here. I have taught myself how to try many different techniques in creating background art for visual novels. - [How to Write Game Reviews (The Nice Way)](https://mrdavepizza.com/write-a-nice-review-of-an-indie-game-or-any-game/) - So you want to write a nice review? As I glide through a tremendous Steam list full of unique reviews, it's actually pretty awesome that gamers are getting involved and writing thoughtful reviews even though some are, not inaccurately, blunt. Praising reviews and critical reviews both serve a purpose. Even a 5-word sentence that reads something like "Just spins me around infinitely" is actually helpful, because if the game costs $20, you might have a point. But let me tell you how, for me, nice reviews are still the best review. - [Still Dropping into Minecraft to Check on my Farm](https://mrdavepizza.com/minecraft-do-minecraft-fans-dream-about-64-bit-sheep/) - Ah, yes, a glorious sunrise in Minecraft valley amongst the idling cattle, rolling waters, and orange pattern of rain among my hermit-bound existence in the randomly generated terrain. For the record, I don't totally remember exactly what it was that I set out to do to do with all this stuff. There is definitely stuff - [Nintendo Switch Review: Is it Worth It?](https://mrdavepizza.com/should-you-switch-to-switch/) - I read a headline today that said that, this holiday season, the Nintendo Switch outsold XBox and Playstation 4-1. The Switch is a nice candidate for such a purchase, since it is about $200 cheaper than the next gen console alternatives, but there are some other advantages as well besides price. Recently, I talked about how the Wii U made me re-enter the world of gaming and this site earlier this year. What a way to go about it too. If you’re what you would consider, a serious gamer, if there is such a thing, the Switch is totally viable. You might not have photorealistic titles like CyberPunk 2077, but you will have really good games that are just as developed and probably a little more unique actually. - [Everybody Really Needs to Play The Sims At Some Point](https://mrdavepizza.com/the-sims-4-a-viable-substitute-for-reality🛀🏡🩺/) - The Sims is a wonderful game, even for its beneficial mental health effects alone. I've been a casual player of The Sims for decades. When I was about midway through The Sims 3 seasons I wondered if this game needed to go further. Creative dedication to these ideas is where we are headed. Information literally is the most profitable commodity. - [HotShot Racing is A Refreshing New Take on A Genre](https://mrdavepizza.com/hotshot-racing/) - Hotshot Racing is here! From Curve Digital–a publisher whose other games I now have to go check out. Let me introduce you to a fun, colorful, low poly action racing game for PS4, Xbox One, Steam, and Nintendo Switch! I’m pretty happy. Since my exploration of low poly, this is the first major release in this style which I’ve actually been able to try out on release day! I’m also going to try my hand at reviewing a single game for the first time in this post. It was released at approximately. After the install, I took a deep breath and buckled in! - [Galacticon Really Plays Like an Old Arcade Cabinet Style Game](https://mrdavepizza.com/galacticon-review/) - Today, I'm taking a look at the soon-to-be-released, arcade-style title Galacticon from developer Radin Games. It's similar in style to 1980s arcade games like Defender, Joust, and Jetpac. You might be familiar with some of these from the book Ready Player One; and maybe the film, but I can't remember, although I know Joust featured prominently in the book. I sat down with the space-themed preview they provided and honestly got really into it. Initially, I wondered how much there'd be to say, but the game has many objectives. There's also an online leaderboard to compete with, so it is full of incentives to play. I'll give you a rundown of some features as well. And as usual, I've included my gameplay, as usual, with the YouTube video at the top. Let's get started. - [LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 is Pretty Solid, And There Are Cheat Codes](https://mrdavepizza.com/lego-marvel-super-heroes-2-its-all-here-🦸♂️🦸♀️/) - The subtitle “It’s All Here” says it all. I’ve tried a few Marvel games over the years, and I’ve seen a good handful of the movies. Never really delved into the comics, but I feel they are well represented in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2. I went into this game thinking maybe it’d be isolated to Avengers characters without much divergence. There are PLENTY of Marvel Heroes in this game though, and you’ll have no trouble finding them. Within the first couple of chapters of game I played or interacted with the Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor, She-Hulk, Wasp, Gwenpool and more. - [Taking Another Look at the Harry Potter LEGO Video Games](https://mrdavepizza.com/yer-a-wizard-harry-a-lego-wizard😲✨🧱/) - I’m not totally certain when it started, but back in the old school days of Nintendo Wii, maybe PC, there was a very exciting release of Harry Potter books/films 1-4 and eventually 5-7. Today, you can play these games on so many platforms that I probably don’t even need to tell you what they are, because you probably have one. - [I've Been Playing Hogwarts Legacy on Easy Mode and it's GREAT!](https://mrdavepizza.com/hogwarts-legacy-might-always-be-there-to-welcome-you-home/) - So, it's finally here: Hogwarts Legacy. It's been an emotional rollercoaster for Potterheads since, well, pretty much always honestly. But it's finally here, isn't it? Something that once we ruminated on as a possibility actually exists now. I grabbed a little bit of gameplay way back in February, wondering if the storytelling was going to - [My First Post: SPLAT](https://mrdavepizza.com/splat🎨/) - The Wii-U experiment has been a very strange but entertaining one. I am constantly on a budget, but love cool tech and entertainment so invested in the console a couple of months ago. I could play nothing but Mario Kart on there, but I like trying games. It is seriously the way to go for retro Wii games (check out the Marseilles MCable, you'll become a believer.) - [Animal Crossing: New Horizons is Still One of Nintendo's Top Games (For a Reason)](https://mrdavepizza.com/i-hope-you-like-fruit-getting-started-with-animal-crossing-🦝🍑/) - This game is for Nintendo Switch only! I should have mentioned that. In fact, this game is essentially the major reason I now have a Nintendo Switch. There are so many good games for Switch that are perfectly mindful and low stress, but the media circling around how wonderful this game actually did sell me in a moment of post-materialistic rebellion that I actually don’t really regret. This game took me to a new realm of peaceful gameplaying. - [Yoshi's Crafted World is A Beautiful Cardboard Dream](https://mrdavepizza.com/yoshis-crafted-world-a-game-accessible-to-everyone/) - I had to remember how to play this game, but once I did I remembered how care free it is to play this game, a nice array of forgiving obstacles and a high attention to detail in its very particular artistic style. I meant to write something about it a while ago, but I kept overthinking it. Today I have some video, screenshots, and seasoned thoughts on Yoshi’s Crafted World. - [Planet Zoo Remains A Suprisingly Pleasant Favorite](https://mrdavepizza.com/planet-zoo-im-a-fan-of-the-animals/) - Planet Zoo is a zoo simulator. You can play in either career, challenge, or sandbox mode. A lot of it can be played online, but it's not necessary. I played for a couple of hours in career mode. It's one of the few times where I've played a game tutorial and felt like I was - [Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: One of the Most Popular Mario Games Ever!](https://mrdavepizza.com/mario-kart-8-beep-beep-vroom/) - I've been in love with Mario Kart since its humble beginnings on SNES. That is true up until today with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It is truly a testament to the highest casual gaming standard held for games of its genre. That said, Mario Kart doesn't exactly have "competitors," mind you. Aside from some sincere efforts from Nickelodeon, Garfield, and Hello Kitty racers, but this game is a labor of love. This game certainly fits with any wish list of the mindful but playful gamer, or really anybody who has liked anything Nintendo has ever done. - [Super Mario 3D All-Stars is The Ultimate Mario Game (And You Can't Have It)](https://mrdavepizza.com/super-mario-3d-all-stars-itsa-me-itsa-me-itsa-me-ad-infinitum/) - Super Mario 3D All Stars for all parties interested, is a special release from Nintendo this year for the Switch which contains three classic Mario games spruced up for HD and available for a limited time offer in physical as well as digital form. They're serious about the limited time too, which has some scratching their heads but it is what it is. I don't sign on as Dave Ubercollector Pizza instead of Dave Pizza, but I believe this is what is called a chase. Or something. - [The Ghostbusters are Back and Even Better in Their New (remastered) Game](https://mrdavepizza.com/ghostbusters-video-game-remastered-freaky-switch-review/) - Nobody asked for a Ghostbusters Video Game Remastered review in 2021, it's sure to be overshadowed by the mega Afterlife release coverage, but maybe, just maybe, you weren't sure who to call. Let me take you through each one. - [Raptor Boyfriend is A Game About Love Unlike Any Other](https://mrdavepizza.com/raptor-boyfriend/) - Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance is an ambitious and masterfully crafted visual novel/dating sim that takes place in small-town Ontario. With fun cryptid characters and absolutely stunning illustrations, its gameplay value is probably some of the best I've seen for this genre. I have been excited to play this for some time, as a general fan of visual novels and cryptid fantasy games. You don't have to worry about anxiety-driven creature interaction though, because this game is safe and accessible across diverse players. Shortly after the day began, I got started on this dive into the world of Ladle, Ontario. Scene one, which is what I played for you, took around roughly an hour. Some players on Steam had a playtime of over 20 hours! So, there is a lot of content here, and many different ways to play. Let's take a look! - [Kraken Academy - Why Am I in Love With Broccoli Girl?](https://mrdavepizza.com/kraken-academy/) - Kraken Academy has been on my mind since I first eyed a trailer of it some months ago. "I have to play that one," came to mind. Many of you are probably familiar with my love of visual novels. And in this case, I'm working with a combination of visual novel and interactive fiction characteristics--an all-things-aside awesome and hilarious game. Explore the bizarre introduction to Kraken Academy with me, and I'll explain why you might start loving visual novels after all and why you should continue to if you already do. LET'S GO!!! - [Beacon Pines is Finally Out Now and It's Astonishing](https://mrdavepizza.com/beacon-pines/) - Beacon Pines is a visual novel, but really it qualifies with a new level of cozy interaction and fathoms deep optimistic complexity to its characters. The basic structure of the story relies on an interesting "plot device" made of... well, plot devices! You start in a storybook tale of a young fawn, though I'd say that's up for interpretation, named Luka at his grandmother's. Through exploration and experimentation and interacting with those around you can acquire something known as "charms." Charms help change the course of the story. You may need to go back and forth to test what works and what doesn't, but with each charm, comes some new element that alters everything. Hold on to your BOOK straps, we're going in. - [Blake is a Colorful Grit Filled Cyberpunk Visual Novel](https://mrdavepizza.com/blake-the-visual-novel/) - Blake is an interesting new visual novel from LegendOri Productions about a complacent computer programmer turned vigilante in a futuristic cyberpunk city. The primary scenario within the game involves a new technology that can make somebody totally anonymous. Even amongst the modern people-tracking computers of its era, a criminal of heinous description is leaving a fatal trace and incidentally has decided to start toying with Blake's sanity. - [Not It: Spookiest Edition is a Dark & Amusing Visual Novel](https://mrdavepizza.com/not-it-spookiest-edition-review/) - Earlier this year, I took a look at a visual novel from this developer called The Last Act. Incidentally, they have a new act called Not It: Spookiest Edition just in time for Halloween. In fact, this whole game's story revolves around an old legend of a curse that arrives every Halloween. I suppose, being on hiatus and everything, I can still find some room to squeeze this one in because this whole month I'm doing a Halloween theme. Also, it is released today, so that's a scoop I can't resist. Therefore, from a very distraction-free space, mostly, let me enthrall you with a first look at Not It: Spookiest Intentions. - [Shindig is the Ultimate Happy Family Indie](https://mrdavepizza.com/shindig-a-game-to-make-you-feel-happy-and-safe/) - This is a game that had come across my desk yesterday, which I had accidentally overlooked because of my new format, but I was really interested in it. Shindig is an interactive fiction in the style of something like a kids' exploration picturebook with some tried and true interactive gameplay. As you might know, it's always been my goal to seek out wholesome indie games because I'm a bit jumpier than a jackrabbit at times. I tend to like games that can be played by anyone. In Shindig I explored this friendly animated world on a quest to help a friendly warthog find treasures to put together a party, or a Shindig rather. It's cute and thoughtful. Learn more here if you wish. - [Fayburrow is a Free Cozy Student Made Interactive Fiction](https://mrdavepizza.com/fayburrow-cozy-3d-mystery-visual-novel-student-game/) - Today, I plunged headfirst into the free games pile new releases over on Steam store. On my arrival, I discovered a cozy little visual novel among the listings called Fayburrow, and I decided to take a look at it. Fayburrow is a free game created by the self-named "Fayburrow Troupe" at VIA University College in Denmark. It just hit the Steam store today. What was first intrigue, turned into a fascination with the conjunction of such delightful graphics with a genre I have not covered in far too long! So, after downloading, I fired it up and took it for a spin at the courtesy of the game's student makers and you dear reader. Let's take a look at Fayburrow. - [Eternia is a Unique Visual Novel About Pets I Played For No Reason](https://mrdavepizza.com/eternia-pet-whisperer-this-isnt-a-normal-pet-adoption-game-but-its-still-cute/) - There's a short, charming story in Eternia: Pet Whisperer. Even if you're a cockatoo/border-collie lover like me, or whether you lean more toward the exotic koala/frill-necked lizard, or rat brothers. These animals have a slight backstory, and cute appearance, plus a natural subtle wit. It's got that solo dev quirk that I love best of all, where the plot derails to form a full loopable plot-line but keep things manageable; that's a plus, folks. And I'm not going to spoil it for you, because you deserve that, but also because I think it's one of the charms of the game. - [Overboard! Is a Hilarious interactive fiction With Surprising Twists](https://mrdavepizza.com/overboard-genre-twisting-inkle-whodunnit-review/) - With eye-catching flat graphics and exciting period stylized environments, no one could say the game Overboard! doesn't have class. (Also known as Overboard! Get Away With Murder.) Literary elements and composition create an intellectual environment on the fictional steamship SS Hook, where your task is to resolve speculation on a murder. It's not just an ordinary mystery though. From the very get-go, it's made apparent that you, the apathetic yet charismatic, Veronica Villensey, are the killer--of her own husband! It is up to you to decide what your motive is, or if you even care! For context, however, it is hinted that the financial ruin of the late Mr. Villensey is most of the motive. - [NeuroNet: Mendax Proxy is a Stunning New Visual Novel](https://mrdavepizza.com/neuronet-mendax-proxy-demo/) - “Dream Harvest,” the developers of NeuroNet: Mendaxy Proxy have provided a demo that gives a special preview of this futuristic fiction that showcases a highly visual and highly interactive story experience. The synopsis goes something like this. Wake up, you’re the newest programmed artificial intelligence developed by a very prominent corporation in the high-tech metropolitan Catena. Take it into your own hands in the bizarre POV of the AI, who is named Arc after a few calibrations in the prologue, or “beta” if you will. As you evolve, you’ll be given various responsibilities that will make you think and test ethical tropes that perhaps you aren’t as committed to as you think. - [Princess Farmer is a Unique and Colorful Indie Out Now](https://mrdavepizza.com/princess-farmer-play-a-puzzle-solving-bunny/) - incess Farmer is essentially a complex row matching game, mixed with some RPG and storytelling elements. With some pixel graphics and a cozy story about bunnies, it's a lot of fun. The stylizing is pink and indie in the best way, and it is fun just to look at. I'm pretty much a sucker for anything with this style. I'm not totally sure what you would call it, but it puts me in a happy place. - [Beasts of Maravilla Island is Magical & Pleasant](https://mrdavepizza.com/beasts-of-maravilla-island/) - Beasts of Maravilla Island is a mindful and progressive concept revolving around the science, hobby, and storytelling of isolated ecosystems and their sometimes astonishing, in this case even magical, discoveries. It's a game about collecting documentation and exploring the flora and fauna of an environment, where combat or violent interaction is non-existent. - [Rain On Your Parade is a Really Vibrant and Fun Game](https://mrdavepizza.com/rain-on-your-parade-prologue-review/) - The idea of this game is you're a cloud. The end. Just kidding, sort of. The cloud has a special place in the story, because it can go anywhere it wants and rain on anything at any time, says the storyteller. Eventually you'll develop some other powers like thunder and well, you'll see. - [Escaping Winter is a 16-bit indie surival game on itch.io](https://mrdavepizza.com/escaping-winter-demo-review/) - Escaping Winter is a strategy game about a forest colony that has to survive the winter every few turns. It's safe to say that this is more of a JAM than anything, solely representing some conceptual ideas. Indeed, civ strategy games are not my forte, but I think this idea is unique enough. If unprepared a winter might be the downfall of a society if it lasts long enough. Luckily it just makes the fire put-put a couple of times. This is a small solo project, nothing to overanalyze. I liked the title screen though and this demo has what it needs. - [BattleCakes is an Astonishingly Colorful and Sweet Indie](https://mrdavepizza.com/battlecakes-demo-impressions/) - BattleCakes is a game in development by Volcano Bean, an indie studio. Play as a customizable cupcake person and explore the town you live in. Talk to other cake-like characters around town and even solve some mysteries. You can solve the problems around town when you head out the gates and take on the gumdroplins, some goblin gum drops, in the park. You can battle, you do indeed have a sword, but you can also defeat the enemies by befriending them. - [Space Mechanic Simulator is a Really Terrific space sim I Tried](https://mrdavepizza.com/space-mechanic-simulator-demo-impressions/) - Let's talk about an upcoming space game! Space Mechanic Simulator is a 3D space sim set in, you guessed, outer space. So far, this game is still in development, but that may have changed by the time you read this. It is currently in development with a demo on steam that I am reviewing here. Your job is to repair space stations, spaceships, and presumably other space vehicles with a sophisticated drill and a meter. Obtain parts from drones or 3D print them. Once you have detected the malfunctioning equipment, remove it and replace it. - [Because It's Hot! Why Pizza? is a Weird, Interesting Indie](https://mrdavepizza.com/because-its-hot-why-pizza-impressions/) - I'm back, reviewing a game. An indie game. A very indie game. An indie game prologue. Because it's hot! - Why Pizza? Freeze frame. But seriously, I am in recovery from an intense year of reviews. So, when I saw this perfectly amusing stylized demo on Steam with a radical pizza theme, I narrowed in on it. I only played for about 7 minutes or so, because platformers make my head explode. (Real reason: I suck at them.) But since I've added the Dave Pizza Promise, which is sifting out the rather uneventful, it was more like 30 minutes. Right? Right. Here we go. Have no worries, this is a positivity filled review. - [Universe for Sale Looks Like a Good Sci-Fi Game](https://mrdavepizza.com/universe-for-sale/) - Universe for Sale is an upcoming title that combines sci-fi themes and metaphysical themes into a quirky and compelling visual novel/interactive fiction. I already do not recall the main character's name, and neither will you, as the shroud of mystery is an important part of this introduction. He is a self-described "cultist" with a floating head who drops into a tea shop on Jupiter to meet with a young lady named Lila. The prologue sets up a story involving Lila's special gift to create mini-universes! Hence the game title. - [Go Heroes: Prometheus is an Interesting Project](https://mrdavepizza.com/go-heroes/) - Go Heroes is a coming soon, turn-based RPG based on the stories of Greek Mythology. Each level is filled with puzzles that not only advance your progress in the game but progress the story. It is not quite isometric but rather described as four-directional--it is sort of like using a board game with camera controls. You play as Prometheus, the Greek titan, who dared give the gift of fire to mankind. I am fortunate enough to have a very early press copy of this game in collaboration with Indie Game Collective and Happyland Games. So, let's take a look. - [Colorblend fx Desaturation is an Interesting Freebie](https://mrdavepizza.com/colorblend-fx-desaturation/) - Colorblend fx Desaturation is an upcoming game released in demo form shortly before testing it here on my end. It’s a 3D platformer with story-rich puzzle-solving elements that blend ideas about color and storytelling. The characters in Colorblend fx Desaturation consist of a wholesome-ish pack of potato-headed buds called the Splatians. And deep in the fire and brimstone caverns of who knows where is the abode of nefarious minions sworn to a meanie named Lord Ashen. In a diabolical turn of fate, Lord Ashen depletes the Splatian’s home of colorful hues in place of monochrome misery. The only solution is to work with your friends and solve creative puzzles involving color to defeat Lord Ashen. - [Dark Dragonkin is A Little, Simple Indie I Played](https://mrdavepizza.com/dark-dragonkin/) - Dark Dragonkin is an indie dev project from Twintertainment that is a top-down pixelized fantasy RPG/dungeon-crawler. Players control multiple characters in a group to make them work together to defeat enemies and advance the story. This game is still deep in the dev process with a potential audience of RPG fans and general indie gamers. It feels very attended to as a solo dev project though, and the potential to scale abilities and environments into a fully fleshed world is entirely real. So, I sat down with Dark Dragonkin and played through the first level. I recommend if you test the demo for this you realize how far the developers have come in working on basic mechanics and themes. I thought it was pretty cool, so let's talk about it. - [Big Boy Boxing is a Great Game Homage That You Have to See](https://mrdavepizza.com/big-boy-boxing/) - Big Boy Boxing is a cartoony indie boxing dev inspired by Cuphead and the classic late 80's NES game Punch-Out!! The concept is polished and shiny for contemporary indie players who thrive on retro quirks in new games. You play as a new boxer, trained up through the earnest beginning in the ring with a trainer, Coach Hank. At this stage of development, the demo is pretty short with only one contender, but there are plenty of interesting observations to be made on this neat project. I'd say it's pretty certain by the time this is released this is going to be a very hyped game in the indie world and beyond. The project from concept to gameplay is really enjoyable and I'm ready to dive in, so let's take a look. - [Soul Delivery is Absolutely Stunning](https://mrdavepizza.com/soul-delivery-hot-neon-sanfran-robot-utopia-itchio-demo/) - Alright, folks, I am compelled to write about this. Last night I posted a video of a game on itch.io called Soul Delivery. Yes, it is true, the graphics in this game are so stunning, it's enough to short circuit. Though, until now, I've never even heard of it. I don't know who the dev is, and I don't know anything more than what's covered on the itch.io page. But, since there's a demand on this, let's just take a look at it right now, and I'll polish this up later once I've had a little more time with it. - [What Lies in the Multiverse is a New Game With One VERY Interesting *Feature*](https://mrdavepizza.com/what-lies-in-the-multiverse-demo-click-rt-to-change-universes/) - We've got a big event going on right now for THE BIG ADVENTURE. Many demos, many great indies. I set my eyes on What Lies in the Multiverse first. It's a collaboration between Studio Voyager, IguanaBee, and Untold Tales. Everything you'll see in this game has a silvery thread of classic games like Fez, Owlboy, etc. But it's a little more than technicolor flashing pixel animations, it's dealing with a really awesome powerful mechanic. Changing universes. That's right, when you click RT you change universes in this game, and, honestly, it's unique, it's a seldom-used trope, but a particularly amusing one, because when you play a game like this, you can drop out real quick and drop back in as if you were putting on a new hat. - [Mago is a Colorful SNES Style Indie Platformer About a Sorcerer](https://mrdavepizza.com/mago-the-villains-burger-demo/) - Mago: The Villain's Burger is an adventure set in a world populated by fresh NES sprites and joyful playful storytelling. It is your responsibility as Mago (which is a perfect name for a sorcerer) to rescue the princess and do heroic things. It's filled with so many fun easy-to-learn but masterable abilities and unique mechanics that you just don't find in every game. The best way to understand it is most likely visually, but today I'll be talking about why Mago is a promising look at how its developers are creating something that is, possibly, capable of going big if they wish. - [BIOTA the Robot Action Monochrome Indie](https://mrdavepizza.com/biota-demo-review/) - I'm going to try something new here. I have been known to review demos in the past, but they get kind of buried under other projects. I really want to dedicate time to as many as I'd like to. All things relevant, I made a post on Twitter about needing to play for Game Boy style indies. I got a great tip from cshPinecone of Indie Game Collective about the game BIOTA from "small bros." It's a shmup--aka shoot 'em up. - [Peglin and its Pachinko Goblins](https://mrdavepizza.com/peglin-demo-review/) - Peglin is a great game where you complete levels by dropping a ball into a destructible pattern of mechanic activating orbs. You can activate critical strike boosts, or replenish the board. And, before I gloss over too quickly, the purpose of this strategy is to rack up points which can then be used to attack mob health points, in effect winning the level and moving on. I was lucky enough to find the demo on Steam, although the main game has been covered elsewhere. Anyway, I'll give you a brief rundown of Peglin. - [Jaded - First Impressions of a Stylish New Platformer](https://mrdavepizza.com/jaded-demo-review/) - I love these platformer games that emerge from the woodwork every single day. Today, that game is Jaded by Shellsnore games, up on Steam. It's a standard platformer with directional keys, jump, attack, and a special mechanic which is a time warp. Although the time warp mechanic is more of a cacoon slingshot kinda thing, it works pretty well. I was able to bind my controller to the basic keys with no problem. Let me share a tad more here for you. - [Wanderful, is a Cozy Puzzle Strategy Game on The Horizon From "Tiny Roar"](https://mrdavepizza.com/wanderful-is-a-high-quality-little-indie-out-this-year/) - Daedelic Entertainment is a huge high-quality game publisher featuring a range of developers from small to major, including the new Gollum game and also Wanderful from the German developers Tiny Roar. I have my eye on this publisher as an unbiased indie gamer because while, yes, the smaller indie community is my foundation, I also - [DreamCell Is a Dark But Not Scary Rogue-Like, and I Got To Name Some of the Characters](https://mrdavepizza.com/dreamcell-lost-in-nightmares/) - DreamCell: Lost in Nightmares is a 2D action twin-stick rogue-like that landed on my desk today. I have been hooked on the rogue-like/lite genre quite a bit lately. You may want to navigate to my YouTube channel for proof with the video below. Despite that, games like DreamCell: Lost in Nightmares give enough content to chew on for a regular day's gaming. The game is currently in a demo stage, scheduled for release on November 25 2022 on Steam. It's a challenging but ultimately amusing rogue-like that I could see evoking repeatable gameplay. It has challenging but anticipated enemies, and perhaps not just with the weapons available but also a large cast of unlockable and playable main characters with different abilities. - [Sky Rogue is a Unique Retro Flight Sim](https://mrdavepizza.com/sky-rogue-review/) - When I first started reviewing games, I wrote a list of flying games that I found intriguing around the time Sky Rogue first appeared on my radar. I feel like Sky Rogue has evolved from my first perception of it though. My own style is a bit different too since I’ve stepped out a bit more from my digital pacifism, at least on principle. Not much though. This is another game that has action-packed gameplay without being too coarse. I love Sky Rogue and I hope you will too. Let’s take a look. - [Nordlicht is a Sweet nindie About Nordic Family Life](https://mrdavepizza.com/nordlicht-a-pleasant-northern-title/) - Nordlicht is a family friendly story book stylized find-the-object game with casual references to Nordict life and the lore/mythology of the viking culture in an anachronistic presentation. You investigate diverse levels with hidden objects and puzzles to solve to complete steps in an adventure story. I think this game would be fun in a family setting, but I found it intriguing enough to investigate as an adult. - [Knights and Bikes is the Best Game About Adventure & Imagination](https://mrdavepizza.com/knights-and-bikes-fantastically-indie-and-super-fun/) - I knew when I read the description of Knights and Bikes on the Nintendo eShop page, and the bounty of awards adorning it, that this was probably going to be pretty cool. It explores some great themes like imagination, curiosity, and adventure. Also, it’s about finding those adventures in a place you don’t need to journey far to find. - [The Gardens Between is a Game That Does Some New Things](https://mrdavepizza.com/the-gardens-between-microcosms-of-indie-squee/) - I'm not sure if the preface of this game is an homage to any other pop culture time traveling islands, but maybe not. I had some theories while playing that maybe some kind of altered planes of existence, which had me thinking about the name. The title, The Gardens Between has a mystical ring to it, but I don't know if that is intentional. I think it might be, but that is my own projection. There's no dialogue or anything to reveal these things, but that's actually okay with me because it's super original and such an interesting gameplay experience! - [The Last Campfire is THE Game For Heart & Imagination](https://mrdavepizza.com/the-last-campfire-a-spark-hiding-in-the-darkness/) - I hesitated the first time I played this. I was up late at night and wanted to try something relaxing and I chose The Last Campfire on the Switch. Visually nice, interesting, but I was a little startled by the minuscule, but there, elements of macabre. Okay, it was just a single skeleton, but that’s enough to not be my usual thing! I set it aside and haven’t thought about it in a while. I’m happy to inform you that this game is actually quite good. It needs to be reconsidered by skeptics, even you if you are one. It’s a sweet and empathic story. Things can change before you would expect them to and it deserves a lot of merit for that. - [Doug Hates His Job is a New Game With a Chip On Its Shoulder](https://mrdavepizza.com/doug-hates-his-job-review/) - Doug Hates his Job is a Beat-Em Up game with an office mockumentary style story about a sales agent who, as the title states, hates his job! Join Doug as he tries to deal with the typical everyday office pet peeves. You get to decide how Doug responds to annoying coworkers, crazy clients, and a ruthless boss. Along the way, unlock new levels with several styles of gameplay. - [Potion Party is That Great Colorful Pixel Alchemy Sim Out](https://mrdavepizza.com/potion-party/) - Potion Party is a recently released indie co-op that involves running an alchemy shop and racing around part of your lab to create potions for hurried customers. Its style is a pleasant top to bottom, cute, pixel art environment. Get in the groove as an alchemist to thumpy party music of its namesake. Players may enjoy reasonable tasks along with adequately challenging objectives. In addition, there is a respectable host of elements that advance the needs of player skills as levels are completed from customers to creatures. I think this game is really fun and am delighted to share more about it with you! - [Pumpkin Jack is the Best Spooky Game Out There Now](https://mrdavepizza.com/pumpkin-jack/) - I petitioned my friends yesterday for a list of games they consider Halloween thematic for an easily spooked dude like myself. I knew of Pumpkin Jack as a backburner game that I had seen last year and lamented myself for not having my affairs in order to get it on the review list! That was during that standalone year of 2020 that had enough triggers as it is. That's why, when my peers suggested Pumpkin Jack I was excited to see it as a standing contender. And to be honest, some of the non-straight-up horror genre games this year are not the type of visual fantasticness that Pumpkin Jack is. So, after plunking down the kinda premium toll on Steam, I'm here to tell you why Pumpkin Jack is worth the cost if you are into indie platformers and want something that's bound to get you into the Halloween spirit--all-year-long! - [Date Night Bowling is a New Dating Game by Way Down Deep](https://mrdavepizza.com/date-night-bowling-crt-cute-bowling-date-sim-review-on-switch/) - For the record, I am a big fan of Way Down Deep and their dating sim releases over the last year like the socially distanced romance sim Romantic Distancing and the popular release Half Past Fate. I've been eyeing Date Night Bowling since I first saw it in an upcoming games roster. So when the opportunity to play it on Switch arose, I snagged it and slipped on some bowling shoes. Eww, digital ones! I jest. Anyway, what we've got here is a combination of a very pleasant to look at video game with plenty of replay value and a pretty darn decent bowling simulator for the Switch. It's about $8 right now on sale. I decided to play through a date and flip through the options, I'll tell you what I observed here. Overall, to begin with, it's a good game. - [The Lightbringer (Demo) is What I Played Today](https://mrdavepizza.com/the-lightbringer-nintendo-switch-demo-impressions/) - This is kind of random. No, really, it is. Might as well roll for initiative. Anyway, I've been spending a ton of time on the Switch lately, since I was traveling with the handheld recently and got kind of used to it. However, I recorded it while playing on my TV, so I don't know. Anyway, was looking back through some of my YouTube videos and realized a lot of you like demos for some reason. So, this one was on the eShop and I gave it a spin. Here we go again with this kinda cute boomerang whirling puzzle solver: The Lightbringer. - [The Last Friend is a Great New Game With Dog Buddies Out Now](https://mrdavepizza.com/the-last-friend-doggos-and-stuff-switch-demo-review/) - In between monitoring my every action, eShop suggested I check out what demos were out. I had really been looking for them though! So, this game The Last Friend showed up as a demo out. The art looked cool and didn't seem too derivative of anything course. So, I downloaded it and loaded it up. The Last Friend is a brawler kind of game with some turret defense mechanics. Most importantly, however, is all your sidekicks are dogs! WHAT. I think this is actually going to be a pretty cool game because of the variety of levels, learning curves, gentle humor, and wonderful dog companion fun. So, let's do this. - [Figment 2: Creed Valley is a Vibrant & Dali'esque Game](https://mrdavepizza.com/figment-2-creed-valley-early-switch-demo-review/) - It seems that Figment 2: Creed Valley, is a new game headed to Nintendo Switch in February of 2022. I've been all about checking out these Switch demos right away, and when I saw this listed today I downloaded it immediately. I wasn't quite sure what I was dealing with here, as it seemed somewhat derivative but also cozily familiar, the reason of which I discovered later. This game is really pleasant-looking though. It reminds me of moments from games like Bastion but also games like Weaving Tides. It's pretty cute really, with enough prickly wholesome creepiness to stay interested. Yeah, actually it feels really good. So, let's take a look. - [Good Pizza, Great Pizza is the Ultimate Pizzeria Simulator](https://mrdavepizza.com/good-pizza-great-pizza-wholesome-pizzeria-simulator-the-review/) - In Fall 2020 when I was just launching the Mr. Dave Pizza concept, I played Good Pizza, Great Pizza by Tapblaze on an Android tablet, one of the many formats this game is available on. Today I played the official version released for Nintendo Switch to go back and really see what amused me about this game. Pizza, the food, has always been pretty popular, but in the last five years, it's developed a near cult status. It's kind of weird honestly, but it's spun some pretty creative and entertaining ideas. So, after so much traffic from google here by indie-game playing pizza lovers and truffle pizza fast food cravers, I am issuing an inaugural validation of Good Pizza, Great Pizza as one of the greatest pizza-themed indie games of all time. At least that I've played--I'll get to you Freddy. - [Unpacking is Great For People Who Obsess About ORGANIZING But Need To CHILL While They Organize](https://mrdavepizza.com/unpacking-cute-cozy-organization-game/) - Unpacking is an isometric puzzle game by Witch Beam, an Australian developer, published by our very own sponsor Humble Bundle. You are a third-person clicker, looking down into an empty room with a stack of boxes sitting in the middle of the floor. There's no direction or impetus, but as you open the box, intuition sets in, and you start to place objects from here and there. Before you know it, you're an artisanal thing mover. You may take solace in a simulation of this if you're particularly neat, or simply like no-pressure puzzles. The game starts off in the year 1997, then soon 2004. Certainly, there are enough years on the timeline to keep you busy! But no rush, nor absence of themes. When you play Unpacking, you'll have plenty of time to put things as you like. - [Celeste is a Top Indie Pick and Superior Platformer](https://mrdavepizza.com/celeste-one-of-the-best-platformers-ever-three-year-anniversary-and-post-farewell/) - Celeste. Yes, it's about time we did this. The renowned precision platformer from Extremely OK Games has been out for approximately three years now (Celeste was released Jan. 25, 2018, hence the three-year anniversary,) and it's not lost its charm. And why would it? The game sold over a million copies by the end of 2019. Whether you're hanging out in your game room or playing on your Switch en destination, this is the kind of pick-up and go game dreams are made of. You'll have to pardon me as I haphazardly introduce a game that's been out for three years! I'm compelled to share my heart with you on this one though. So, let's do it. Let's talk, Celeste. I'll cover "Farewell" a little bit as well. - [Moonglow Bay Tells Tales of the Maritimes in this Great Indie Catch](https://mrdavepizza.com/moonglow-bay-a-wholesome-catch-game-review/) - I'm a big fan of fishing in games, but even more so a good story involving it. Moonglow Bay has done it. It's a story about a retired fisher getting back out there. It is also about settling a community's superstitions and getting back to the foundation of their livelihood. The story takes place in a traditional Eastern Canadian seaboard fishing village in the 80s. It is otherwise perfectly afloat in its conventional timeless qualities. I related to this game on a personal level, but it floats my boat on multiple. Let's see. - [Playing "Make The Burger" Because It Looked Cool, and it Kinda Was](https://mrdavepizza.com/make-the-burger-casual-dining-for-hungry-pixel-people/) - Welcome to my post about Make the Burger. This game's release date on Nintendo Switch occurred this week, although it has a presence on Steam and ItchIO as well. This is a casual food truck sim with catchy and fun pixel environments and a line-up of hungry and paying illustrated customers. Your entire success is dependent on your ability to remember ingredient symbols and who ordered them. Take orders from customers to cook the burgers they want as accurately and quickly as possible. Upgrade your establishment each day by using funds to purchase new ingredients, furniture, and various tools of the trade. Each session starts at the beginning and it's up to you to play as casually or seriously as you'd like. - [Moonlighter is a Much Better Game Than I Thought](https://mrdavepizza.com/moonlighter-golem-dungeon-supports-local-business/) - The game Moonlighter is a combination rogue-lite dungeon-crawler mixed with trade simulation and story-rich RPG elements. This timeless, beautifully rendered pixel top-down was released by Digital Sun in 2018, and is available on most platforms. - [Jack Move is High Energy Fun With Cyberpunk Thrills](https://mrdavepizza.com/jack-move-is-high-energy-fun-with-cyberpunk-thrills/) - I'd brushed the proximity of Jack Move several times this year. Seeing it here, seeing it there, probably even passing up a demo. When I just had to have the Tactics and RPG turn-based bundle from Humble Bundle this month, I got a chance to play it. Turns out Jack Move, the pixel graphic cyberpunk - [Alpaca Ball: All Stars is Free on Nintendo Switch](https://mrdavepizza.com/alpaca-ball-all-stars-goooaaaall/) - Alpaca Ball is about having fun. It's exactly what you need it to be. A game about alpacas playing soccer, I mean football, I mean ball, or maybe Europe is starting to call it soccer, or maybe they only call it that because of Americas--wait, where is this game from? There's Spanish music and the first level is Machu Picchu, which is in Peru, but the developers are in Austria, and the game is English. No worries. - [Burnstar is a Bargain Rogue-Like on Nintendo Switch](https://mrdavepizza.com/burnstar-its-like-a-sauna-in-here/) - I got Burnstar for under $2 on eShop and it’s also on Steam for around $5. That’s not bad really. And this game is actually good fun. It is cheaper than a burrito from Chipotle too. This is one of those games that doesn’t have a sweeping lore setup for burning a bunch of junk. It’s just cool looking, fun, and the sound design is funkalicious. You can play this game either as a single-player or co-op. I think co-op would probably be easier, but I did alright on single-player. This game is $2 you have nothing to lose really. - [Metaverse Keeper is a Little Hidden Gem on Nintendo Switch](https://mrdavepizza.com/metaverse-keeper-keeping-it-real/) - This game has a very simple concept behind it, one that I'm not sure of the importance of really--it's very light--but it's good enough to kick off another exploration of the eShop and click to purchase. Metaverse Keeper seems to have been promoted really hard lately. I never really thought a whole lot about this - [First Impressions of Phoenotopia Demo on Nintendo Switch](https://mrdavepizza.com/phoenotopia-awakening-first-impressions/) - Phoenotopia is more than a cozy pixel-art game about a hero with pink hair. There are some pretty deep theme but also pleasant gameplay. For a sample, a group in Phoenotopia known as the last councils decide the fate of humanity. This game has emotional and philosophical depth. But once again, it's buffered with some - [Clocker is A Complex New Puzzle Indie on Nintendo Switch](https://mrdavepizza.com/clocker-first-impressions-of-a-chinese-indie-game/) - I just saw Clocker released on Nintendo eShop this morning for a reasonable $3, so I snatched it up and gave it a go. These Switch games are kind of hard to predict sometime, but you have to pay your portion for the privilege once in a while. I do not really know what the origins of this game are. It was listed under Indie in eshop, with no publisher info. A little research revealed that the developer Wild Kid Games, published this through a studio called Indienova in China. Are there indie studios in China? I have wondered this a few times. I really don’t know much about it, but if there are that’s pretty cool. - [Loco Motive is Coming to Nintendo Switch](https://mrdavepizza.com/loco-motive-indie-train-murder-mystery/) - Loco Motive is a standard Clue/family drama set in 1939 aboard a train in Switzerland. The conflict is a very classic trope, a tried and true one. Like all mysteries, just being in the genre usually checks all the switches into place for creating all the elements of an effective plot and engaging the audience. - [Spotlight: Greak Feels like Hollow Knight But Is... Different (Nintendo Switch)](https://mrdavepizza.com/greak-memories-of-azur-beyond-the-familiar-platformer/) - Amongst the trove of pale-skinned characters, glowing misty caverns, and punchy character abilities, this one might be new to you. Greak: Memories of Azur is similar to platformers like Hollow Knight and Undertale, perhaps even Ori or maybe Hoa, sure. Don't worry if you haven't heard of any of those! What Greak offers is a borderline cozy adventure with very unique, engaging gameplay that is an experience of its own. - [Indie Spotlight: Down In Bermuda is a Tropical Hidden Gem on Switch](https://mrdavepizza.com/down-in-bermuda-from-the-makers-of-agent-a-cozy-puzzle-game/) - Yak & Co released Down in Bermuda catering to the growing indie cozy fanbase Q3 of 2019. Yes, this game is over two years old, but with the occasional mega discounts, from time to time and continuing interest it's cognizant to explore. It's still relevant, fun, and cozy--indeed. The level of a-ha moments in this puzzle platformer is suited to YouTube, Twitch, or wherever you want to turn a gathering into a chill hangout. And even as much on your own, whether it's the hunt of unlocking a puzzle on intuition alone that interests you or the pastel color stylizing, it's certified enjoyable. With cool color theory islands and cool low-poly characters, this game offers contemporary and relevant gameplay for the new wholesome/cozy gamer base, which fits in right at home here at MrDavePizza.com. - [I Played Owlboy With a Library Copy on Switch - This is a Classic](https://mrdavepizza.com/owlboy-a-fine-indie-owlish-adventure/) - Sometime about 100,000 years ago Owls became all the rage. I joke, since owl knickknacks and stories have surged in popularity over the past couple of decades. But they've long symbolized intelligence, wisdom, and ability. Which is good, because those are common themes in Owlboy. I tested this game on Nintendo Switch, but it is a cross-platform Metroidvania, an acceptable umbrella term for a whole ton of games out there. - [Inked: A Tale of Love Is a New Hand-Drawn Game (Nintendo Switch)](https://mrdavepizza.com/inked-a-tale-of-love-now-on-switch-with-touchscreen/) - Well, here I am, back to keep things fresh here in the pizzeria arcade (this is a lie.) I have the privilege of receiving a review copy for what was originally a PC game, now out on Switch, Xbox, and Playstation. Today I tested out the Switch version on the handheld mode and made my way through the first couple of chapters to see how well the transition has been (plus promote it to new players!) I've seen sketch-style game graphics before, but I was curious to see what this was all about. The developer reached out to my friends at Indie Game Collective, and many of us got to try this ourselves to our utmost delight. So, in the honor of storytelling, as is this beautiful mind-sharpening narrative, I'll be taking a look at the new puzzle game Inked: A Tale of Love. - [A Showcase of Vesper: Zero Light Edition (On Switch)](https://mrdavepizza.com/vesper-zero-light-edition-switch-review/) - Vesper: Zero Light Edition is out on Nintendo Switch and PC today! Players can find this new version, plus the big debut Switch release, on eShop and Steam. It's an innovative platformer with arcane space vibes and shimmering, colorful environments. It also includes a compelling and innovative storyline told through holographic recordings and plentiful checkpoint diversions. I played the first twenty minutes on my Switch for you. I have to say it's one of the more stylistically compelling platformers I have played a release version of. - [NES Nostalgia: Games From My Youth](https://mrdavepizza.com/nes-nostalgia-i-replay-games-from-my-youth/) - I wanted to call this "NES Games That Influenced Me" or something like that. Honestly though, I can't totally remember WHY I remember these games, only that they evoke some mood or emotion when I play them. I guess you could call it nostalgia. Yeah, that's probably it. The main reason for this is I wanted to try writing about something I haven't tried. - [Why Gaming on a CRT TV is Better and Where to Get One](https://mrdavepizza.com/why-gaming-on-a-crt-tv-is-better-and-where-to-get-one/) - Share this post: Everybody who was born in my generation grew up with the old box style TV based on the cathode ray tube technology of the time (or CRT for short.) In this article I’ll be talking about the pros of doing your gaming on these CRT style televisions instead of the more modern - [Hollow Knight is Charmingly Spooky, and an Award-Winning Classic](https://mrdavepizza.com/hollow-knight-review/) - If you want a game not confined to an era or trend or anything really, you might want to check out Hollow Knight. Gamers have branded it indie without hesitancy, but it's something much more than that. It manages to cast a dim light into the shadows left by predecessors In a world--run by bugs--in - [Double Cheeseburger, Medium Fries - Why Do I Love This?](https://mrdavepizza.com/double-cheeseburger-medium-fries-indie-game-take-on-working-fast-food/) - Play as Penelope, a fast food worker whose called into work on her day off with the only alternative being terminated. So, she goes in and there's nobody else working besides her and the manager who does nothing. Take your time and work through lines of customers who are pretty authentic in their variations and orders. - [Lab Rags is a Freebie Hidden Gem By Students With a Unique Feature](https://mrdavepizza.com/lab-rags-early-access-review/) - Lab Rags is an upcoming title from the student project studio Salt Mine Studios. It is an art-deco era puzzle level game that shares mechanics with games like Portal and its descendants. Get started right away as a mechanical android with a neat gun similar to the classic gravity gun. You can advance within the game by respawning and then grabbing your previous housing to fling at door-opening buttons, traverse over spike pits, and even build structures like stairs out of crushed cubes made from your metal leftovers. The environments and music are very charming, and it is an appropriate level of challenge and enjoyment. - [Til Nord is a Free Student Made Snowmobile Game](https://mrdavepizza.com/til-nord-review/) - Til Nord is a free open world snowmobile game released by students at Breda University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. The gameplay is straightforward with its mobile open-world gameplay and pulls off a finished level of design from the beginning. Drive your snowmobile around the Loften Islands of Norway, day and night bright snowy roads and northern lights skies at night, solving delivery missions for enterprises around the village like lumber mills and fisheries. Or test your skill at time-lapse contests with your learned speeding abilities. - [Nyaa-Kuza!! is a Freebie Indie Student Game](https://mrdavepizza.com/nyaa-kuza-review/) - Nyaa-Kuza is an illustrated half-action interactive fiction title from the self-dubbed Catzooka Studios out of the University of Utah's EAE program. Play as Mochi, an ex Nyaa-Kuza brawler cat, whose cat wife, Hime, has been "catnapped" by the syndicate. You'll traverse the outskirts of a Japanese city interacting with leads and allies in a conventional visual novel style to find Hime. At other times, the game is highly interactive with button-mashing fight scenes with cat gangsters. The game is free on Steam, and I sincerely suspect you've never seen a game like this. - [I Played Chair Simulator, that Hilarious Freebie Indie On Steam](https://mrdavepizza.com/chair-simulator/) - I must have a sick sense of humor if I decided to go on this journey so eagerly in the gaming verse. I have a sense of humor, sorry for the orneriness. C'mon though "CHAIR" Simulator!? What's weird is it actually wasn't that bad. And it's free. If you literally have nothing else to do, just try it. I'm only jesting guys, obviously the creator was tongue in cheek when they created this, but I was surprised by the attention to gameplay that was put into this for being a joke game. Well, that, or it was created by aliens, which is fine too. Alright, let's unpack this, not too much though, since surely I'm doing the Lord's work today here. Launch... - [Loading Story Killed An Afternoon For Free](https://mrdavepizza.com/loading-story-a-free-indie-game-based-on-i-guess-loading-screens-review/) - Today's game, Loading Story, listed as developed by "potatodog" on Steam is a tad quirky but genuinely satisfying. It's a very short game about a character troubleshooting a game loading error in an imaginary video game town, where the loading tube passes through. Just wander around and solve the mystery. It's good that it's free - [Caves Ablaze Feels like a Super Old School Platformer](https://mrdavepizza.com/caves-ablaze/) - Caves Ablaze is a 2D Metroidvania Platformer. Play as a ball of fire that completes puzzles deep underground by using flames and dashing abilities to unlock paths. Avoid water and slowly make your way to the surface. Playable with an X-Box Input Controller or keyboard. This was the inaugural free games post for the FGV blog. Not a lot documented here, but a perfectly enjoyable game. - [Magic Trick is A Cool Little itch.io Indie About Skating](https://mrdavepizza.com/magic-trick/) - Magic Trick is a 3D first-person skateboarding game that combines elements of popular wholesome achievement games with a skateboarding theme. It is rich in cotton candy pastels, low poly maps, and anthropomorphic characters to interact with through each island. You can play this game with a controller or keyboard and mouse. The storyline is driven by skateboarding objectives of traditional moves like ollies, grinds, flips, and jumps. It is a fully released game and exists in the realm of dev games that are available at a very affordable price mark for lots of fun! - [More ItchIO Binging: Space Adventure by e9k9](https://mrdavepizza.com/space-adventure-by-e9k9-itchio/) - Just a fun little platformer today. Found this on ItchIO. You play as a small alien crashlanded somewhere, a moon perhaps, wandering around collecting green dots. Works great on a controller, and the music is pleasant. The original language of this game is German, so if you don’t speak German you might not totally understand what’s going on. Everything is pretty intuitive though, including the universal basics of all platformers (left, right, up, down, jump, etc.) Released within the last month. - [Gummy Shooter is a colorful pixel graphic blaster game](https://mrdavepizza.com/gummy-shooter-android/) - Mostly created for its novelty probably, Gummy Shooter is an amusing side-scrolling thumb blaster. To be honest, I’ve never tried anything like it before, but I was moved to try the Android category of ItchIO as I was out and it was really quite easy. Everything here is a purple orange anime’ish pixel sci-fi. There’s really not much to it. The controls are a little confusing but just keep experimenting and you will get it. Want to check it out? It is, as everything here, free. - [Exoblast is Basically Cyberpunk Pong](https://mrdavepizza.com/exoblast-steam/) - Exoblast is basically a very extreme version of pong. Made by the French developer DreamIRL Games, it hit Steam last month and is free as of version 1.0. You control a machine slider in charge of one side of the screen playing against either an AI or another player (there seems to be functionality for online mode too.) The original style of this type of game is expanded upon with the ability to shoot plasma at the other side of the screen, distracting or even disabling the enemy player. It’s loaded with all sorts of cyberpunk aesthetics and is quite fun actually. It is also capable of full controller support. Find it here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/725100/Exoblast/ - [Random Free JAM Games: Daydream (Kowzak)](https://mrdavepizza.com/daydream-itchio-jam-free-game-short/) - Daydream is a simple keyboard controller platformer made for an ItchIO Dev jam. The protagonist is a woman on a bus daydreaming out the window, as you control one of three recurring daydreams, jumping over obstacles and creatures and avoiding water. It varies from creative to bizarre. Nothing too serious here, just a free game, standing in front of a blog, wondering what to play. There were a few runners-up today, but this was released 12 hours ago, so for the sake of authenticity, this is today’s latest free game. I might have to start dipping into the archives next time. Enjoy the ambient pixel art gameplay. Find the game here: https://kowzak.itch.io/daydream - [ItchIO Spotlight: Eats Shoots and Leaves](https://mrdavepizza.com/eats-shoots-and-leaves-itchio/) - Here’s an amusing little platformer over on ItchIO called Eats Shoots and Leaves. The name is a parody of the famous writing device expressing the difference punctuation and grammar makes in the comparison of the words “Eats Chutes and Leaves” and “Eats, Shoots, and Leaves.” The game is about a panda, so this is most certainly true. In the game, you play a mama panda who needs to rescue her cubs from bad guy poachers wandering around the jungle. Collect leaves, climb vines, open cages. You can also, appropriately, shoot little missiles at enemy poachers. This game is simple but really well made and I really loved playing it. It also offers full controller support. - [Easter Pick: Super Star Duck](https://mrdavepizza.com/super-star-duck-escape-from-nefarious-castle-itchio/) - There’s a really neat ItchIO developer called “eggnog.” They’re publishing all sorts of harmless, fun games apparently. In Super Star Duck: Escape From Nefarious Castle, you’ve got the option to play as Esdee, Flan, or Bean, a duck, hippo, and dog (respectively.) It works best with keyboard input in my experience, but a mapped controller would work too (technically the game supports controllers too so you can try it but that’s just my opinion.) You’ll notice on the ItchIO page by eggnog that there is a whole backstory to Super Star Duck, and the gameplay, although a platformer, has a casual storyline as well. Also, just look at these pastels here on the cusp of spring. I think it looks amazing! - [Bunny Bye-Bye is a Cute, Simple Indie Game](https://mrdavepizza.com/bunny-bye-bye-itchio/) - This is a 2D pixel-art platformer about a little alien named “bobe” who needs to clean dust-bunnies around a space station using a vacuum called a clean0tron. Solve path puzzles to navigate your way through the cozy mechanical environment and progress through the game. The vacuum has space for one item at a time, so you’ll have to figure out what order to vacuum and relocate blocks so that you can complete each level. The puzzles are challenging enough to keep things interesting, but you’ll most likely find the gameplay light and pleasant. - [Earth Day Game Pick: Tadpole Tales](https://mrdavepizza.com/tadpole-tales-review/) - Plot your way as a tadpole through a polluted river. When you heal corrupted wildlife with a splash of water, they move back underwater so you can navigate your way through. Some creatures are bigger than others and more challenging. Tadpole Tales is quite challenging in general though. These are occasionally known as shmup games. The developers, who are a small team under the Pinnacle Games brand publishing, have dubbed the game a "Clean-em Up." Don't you love that? - [With You is a co-op game For couples](https://mrdavepizza.com/with-you-steam/) - With You is from Carol Mertz and Insatiable Cycle, the same publisher of “We should talk.” It’s a simple co-op puzzle platformer that can be played with a keyboard. It can also be played as one player using the respective sides of their keyboard to control the two main characters. Solve puzzles by figuring out geometric obstacles, flipping around your square and half circle buddies so that they can fit into the floating sections on the two-dimensional plane behind them, unlocking the next levels. The game features a cute style, with a pleasant soundtrack, and is described on the Steam page as a game “that hopes to inspire couples to connect, communicate, and collaborate.” I think it succeeds, and that’s why it is my free game this today, which has also got me back on the hunt for more free Steam games! - [Octarina, A Game About an Octopus Trapped in a Sushi Factory](https://mrdavepizza.com/octarina-steam-free-game-short/) - e of the octopus!) Using your squiggly limbs and momentum, propel yourself around the interior of the factory with the intention of escaping. You can use suction cups to climb structures and hurl objects at switches to reverse conveyor belts and such. There are three modes: speed mode, story mode, and “the floor is lava.” Despite the dire situation, the game is pretty pleasant and amusing. The graphics and art style are spot on, making use of mid-range graphics cards, which I confirmed on my desktop build. It’s best played with a controller in my opinion. The story is short and sweet, but this is a free game that rewards you for wanting straight-to-the-point gameplay to appreciate its concept. The game is from an academic dev at FH Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, which has some other projects out too. - [Moonstuck is Literally Impossible, Stop Now](https://mrdavepizza.com/moonstuck-steam/) - This is one of the games that I hesitated to add because I am not any good at playing it yet. Then again, that is basically the reason I decided to create this side blog because I can share the actual game info quicker than I pick up the learning curve. Anyway, Moonstuck is a 2D platformer from CozyGames and Black County Games available on Steam just released today. It utilizes a very difficult mechanic involving rocket propulsion and a scenario where touching the majority portions of the platform can result in being kicked back to the start, or checkpoint if you proceed far enough. The aesthetics of the game, especially the environment, music, and character are really pleasant. It offers a cozy place to zone out and cuts no corners in creativity. Some comments on Steam described it as a “calm rage game,” which I think is a perfect description. As usual, the game is totally free and even offers controller support, so it is worth checking out! - [Hivemind 2: Stargrove Scramble is a Stylish & Satisfying New Indie](https://mrdavepizza.com/stargrove-scramble/) - Hivemind 2: Stargrove Scramble is a 2D pixel art platformer part of a 2021 Newgrounds dev jam with an “egg” theme by the dev group Team Bugulon. You play a little cloaked lizard, progressing through various spring-sunset-toned environments, collecting candies that in turn give you eggs that you can use to hurl at enemies and unblock paths. The music is a touch above fun, along with the sound effects, making the game have a polished SNES quality that is so adored in these kind of games. Stargrove Scramble is a generous product as far as free games on ItchIO go in my opinion. It holds a really nice balance of ease to play with rewarding character abilities. I also couldn’t help but notice the subtle hark back to Mario 2’s “Birdo” egg sound effects, which is a nostalgic touch. The controller support is a nice plus that I always look for too. I recommend checking it out if you play ItchIO games and want a pleasant free one that seems to be a cohesive one. You can also play Stargrove Scramble in your browser if you like! - [Recommendation: Ducksoup Dungeon](https://mrdavepizza.com/ducksoup-dungeon-review/) - Let's jump right into Ducksoup Dungeon. It's a free web browser playable rogue-lite on Itch.io by developer Richard Lems, also known as Blastmode Games. You might have heard of Lems' work on the game Mighty Goose. In the game I'm discussing here, Ducksoup Dungeon, you choose one of four heroes. It is playable in a web browser or can be downloaded. Starting with "Slashchicken," the first hero is a chicken. With amazing firepower at your side, you'll blast your way through and collect coins. Each play's collection can be used to unlock the other three heroes. Every level features hidden procedurally generated areas, meaning it can be a different layout every time you play. The levels, of which there seems to be an infinite number, are filled with containers destructible for coins, reached by eliminating various mobs. - ["Grey Block" Daringly Intermingles Conspiracy and Paranoia](https://mrdavepizza.com/grey-block-exclusive-first-look/) - Grey Block is a new psychological interactive fiction. This is a story about Theo Church, a young man who is involuntarily committed to a place called the Green Valley Psychiatric Hospital. Within the framework of a mysterious conspiracy, he tries to escape with the help of a hired assassin, who Theo tells a nurse was - [The Bat Guide to Cheat Codes for LEGO Batman: The Videogame](https://mrdavepizza.com/the-bat-guide-to-cheat-codes-for-lego-batman-the-videogame/) - Share this post: If you’re a fan of LEGO Batman: The Videogame, you know it’s all about exploring Gotham, battling villains, and unlocking cool characters. SMAPI and its compatible mods not only make the game have longer replayability but actually can save - [Astroneer Takes the Space Sim Genre to New Heights](https://mrdavepizza.com/astroneer-review/) - Astroneer is a low poly space sim with a playful and colorful, stylized atmosphere. It uses its practical fundamental mechanics and graphics to pull off an engaging and creative experience. After completing the tutorial on your basic tools and resources available, the game is essentially an open-world sandbox where you can develop your base camp or head to another planet. It is similar to games like The Outer Worlds and No Man's Sky, without the realistic graphics and more emphasis on casual, puzzle-solving gameplay. Today, I'll take you through what my experience is with this game. - [Easy Way to Install Cheat Engine for Astroneer & Other Games](https://mrdavepizza.com/how-to-install-cheat-engine-safely-easy/) - Cheat Engine is a utility that allows loading "cheat tables" for personal use in offline gameplay for games that don't have integrated cheat codes. If you're nostalgic like me, think "Game Genie." Using mods and cheat tools is not unethical or lazy and you should have no insecurity about wanting to use them! I'll show - [Guide to LEGO Marvel's Avengers Cheat Codes](https://mrdavepizza.com/guide-to-lego-marvels-avengers-cheat-codes/) - LEGO Marvel's Avengers is another great super hero game in LEGO's growing collection of family friendly titles that I'll be talking about here. This game features all the classic heroes from the Marvel Avengers comics and film series like Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, and Black Widow. The game follows the storyline of the Marvel - [The Cultist Simulator is a Great Introduction to Lovecraftian Lore](https://mrdavepizza.com/the-cultist-simulator-woah/) - The Cultist Simulator is a good name for this game, although "occulist" would have worked too. For starters, the cards look a lot like tarot; they kind of play like tarot too. There are some pretty spiritual and existential horror themes in the story as well. I had to confirm this later, but there are apparently some heavy Lovecraftian themes in The Cultist Simulator, elder alien gods and such. Oh, also, the story is really up to you and how you play your cards. And what's in the cards... - [JoyToKey and How I Use It To Keybind Controllers for Gaming](https://mrdavepizza.com/how-to-keybind-a-controller-with-joytokey/) - This article is about how to keybind your game controller with JoytoKey to play games, like browser games on Itch.IO, if native controller support is not supported. I play a lot of platformers and games on Itch.IO and Steam that use a keyboard and mouse, but generally, I prefer controller support. Keybinding is a useful ability that can allow you to play more responsively, or even play an indie without native controller support away from your desk! - [How to Play Wingspan - A Tutorial for Beginners](https://mrdavepizza.com/how-to-play-wingspan-and-things-to-know/) - Wingspan is an exciting concept from top to bottom. It involves all manner of birds in either a card-driven board game or a cross-platform video game--both essentially based on the same original concept. Bird lovers want everything to do with this game, me included, and with the different ways to play, who can resist? Still, - [Potion Craft Tips, Tricks, and Secrets You Need](https://mrdavepizza.com/potion-craft-alchemist-simulator-beginners-guide/) - Getting started with Potion Craft can be intriguing and fun but also confusing--by nature. The game features role playing game elements mixed with strategy and casual gameplay. It's one of the hottest games out there for alchemy sims, but quickly has become a diverse favorite for gamers. I've taken some time to compile some tips - [LEGO Harry Potter Cheat Codes (A Wizard's Guide)](https://mrdavepizza.com/lego-harry-potter-cheat-codes-a-muggles-guide-to-both-games/) - Looking for cheat codes for LEGO Harry Potter? As you may know, there are actually two games in the LEGO Harry Potter series, years 1-4, and years 5-7. This article will be a one stop location for the games, because I'll be giving you cheat codes for both Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 and Lego - [Terraria - First Impressions of an Indie Survival Classic](https://mrdavepizza.com/terraria-first-impressions-of-an-indie-survival-classic/) - Terraria is simply one of the most catchy niche games ever made, yet I hadn't ever played it until just recently. The gameplay is engaging and the pixel art graphic style is pretty satisfying. It has a simple premise that matches other survival craft games, like Minecraft, that being: build a fort, fight or hide, - [LEGO DC Super Villains Is A Blast, And It Has Cheat Codes](https://mrdavepizza.com/lego-dc-super-villains-is-a-blast-and-it-has-cheat-codes/) - Alright, let's talk about cheat codes in LEGO DC Super Villains. Here's a little background info, LEGO DC Super Villains is the fourth installment in the LEGO Batman series and a super fun and popular game out of the franchise. The game has a unique plot that takes place after the justice league has disappeared. - [Spooky Station and Other Great Halloween Indie Games](https://mrdavepizza.com/halloween-game-indie-list-spooky-station-and-4-more/) - Spooky Station, Fifo's Night, Haunt the House, Pumpkin Jack, and Monster League. Spooky Station is actually 9 games too, I was boggling over what games to include, but I ultimately realized: how about everything? Let's go! Fifo's Night is some major deep cuttage, which we love here. And some recent covered games too! Are you ready for this frightful/thoughtful indie Halloween game list? Anything could happen… - [Going Under is A Really Colorful, Fun Game With Some Challenges](https://mrdavepizza.com/going-under-beautiful-and-fun/) - Going Under: The stylistic, colorful, satirical beat ’em up from Aggrocrab Games. Here we go again. I am officially hooked on Going Under. Snagging it quickly on release day, I have some observations on what this is all about, and I like it. Mainly that it looks great and is very tongue-in-cheek hilarious in addressing some very thematic cultural themes in business. - [The Big Journey is an Old Indie Game Involving Cats & Dumplings](https://mrdavepizza.com/the-big-journey-roll-around-a-dumpling-eating-cat/) - Hey, when you say “roll around a dumpling-eating cat,” do you mean that literally? You do? Really? Okay, I’m in. Play The Big Journey and roll around a cat, who should be named Alpuss Dumplingdore (do not deny what a perfect name that would be.) Alright, alright. There’s nothing that bizarre about this game. Firstly, The Big Journey is unique, however, once you jump in, it’s pretty fleshed out. Secondly, despite the weird concept, it’s highly rewarding. Finally, I think we’re all a little bit used to those by now, us gamers, aren’t we? So, next up, let’s play! - [Chronology is an Interesting, Frugally Priced Game I Played](https://mrdavepizza.com/chronology-lets-do-the-time-warp-again-on-a-budget/) - This one’s a real treat. In my quest to document cheap games that are high quality, I am here to showcase today’s PC Game titled “Chronology.” Once again, I snagged this title from Steam for a meager $0.49. Booyah! When you start playing new games all the time, you start to notice themes and design aspects from the description. So I can pretty much guess what I’m in for and/or if the game is worth a purchase click. - [A Bird Story is a Classic and Influential Indie](https://mrdavepizza.com/a-bird-story-i-smiled-so-hard-at-this-game/) - This one in particular is about a young boy who rescues an injured bird in the forest near his school. More specifically, he fends off a badger which tries to catch the bird in a forest clearing. The rest of the story flows organically from this incident and it is the primary purpose of the narrative. - [Art of Rally and My First and New Impressions](https://mrdavepizza.com/art-of-rally-first-and-new-impressions/) - Somewhere in my past, I played an awesome rally game that came fully loaded with mud-flapping corners and virtually no control over anything. I also know that these aren't a grapevine of hits in the racing genre, but rather a genre unto itself. That said, I had no idea before Art of Rally that rally - [Lasagna Boy is Weird and Scary But Really, Really Hilarious](https://mrdavepizza.com/lasagna-boy-plus-classic-creepy-and-interesting/) - HEADS UP: Moderately creepy imagery is in these games, this will be my only warning. I don't generally review horror games, but Lasanga Boy made me laugh, and then, it intrigued me. It merits analysis based on absurdity alone but also design. I also personally understand people like illustrating and drawing creepy monsters because... well, it's fun! Why not throw in a third or fourth eyeball here and there. We've been doing that for ages. Direct link to the games on Itch.IO a the bottom of this article. - [Go, Morse, Go! is a Cool Little Game That Teaches Morse Code](https://mrdavepizza.com/go-morse-go-arcade-edition-review/) - BRIGHT pixelated bunnies! It's a finished full release indie game on Itch.IO and Steam. In Go Morse Go, you are trained for a competition to outdo your opponents, up 4 players, by spelling numbers in Morse Code. You are presented a letter, and you click the button on your controller to spell corresponding code in Morse to spell that letter. I'll explain. - [ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove is Out Now as a Retro Indie](https://mrdavepizza.com/toejam-and-earl-review/) - ToeJam & Earl are two friends who visit Earth from another planet. When they try to blast some funky music from their spaceship, Earl accidentally sucks the entire Earth and themselves into a black hole. Their ship and the planet are left in shambles. Thankfully, as these characters, you can traverse the floating islands of exponentially bizarre inhabitants to collect pieces flung from your ship. Collect items to rebuild your ship and head from there. - [Hades is the Best Rogue-Like Game Out So Far](https://mrdavepizza.com/hades-first-impressions-review/) - Hades, the countless award-winning indie rogue-lite from the makers of games like Bastion, has been released onto Nintendo Switch this last week. The game is a procedurally generated beat-'em-up in the underworld realm of Hades itself. Play as Tartarus, prince god of Hades, in a simply brilliant gameplay idea involving fighting through chambers of monsters in an attempt to escape the realm of Hades itself with the help of gods and goddesses of realms below and above. - [Taranasus's Vecter is the Long Time Indie Sadly Ending Now](https://mrdavepizza.com/vecter-review/) - Vecter is a free racing game available on Steam from Taranasus. The game is a procedurally generated vector based graphic racer/flyer with a catchy background. It has thousands of overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam. It has recently come to a conclusion and left a legacy of the power of free game and participants from an adoring community. Up until April 3rd, 2021 the game was served with constant improvement and imaginative gameplay. It is still available for free on Steam. It has also left a legacy of inspired indie developers who have created their own games based on it, which is expected to continue moving forward. - [Rail Route is a Train Dispatcher Simulator Railfans Love](https://mrdavepizza.com/rail-route-demo-impressions/) - RailRoute is a railroad dispatch strategy game for PC. Trains that travel between stations, railyards, and tracks do so at the discretion of railroad dispatchers that use special display maps to direct traffic. This game takes most of the nuances of this real technology and has created a simulation that uses simple mechanics to build a railroad empire. With many options, an informative tutorial, and room to expand, you'll be keeping an eye on your fleet timetables for engaging gameplay. - [Surviving Mars is the New Staggeringly Ambitious Space RTS](https://mrdavepizza.com/surviving-mars-review/) - Surviving Mars is a scientific strategy and simulation game about colonizing the red planet. Players are guided through the very basics of roving the terrain for information and resources. As their knowledge increases, it becomes possible to start envisioning an extraplanetary colony. Learn about theoretical technologies as well as real ones and how they interplay in our future on Mars. This is a game about exploration and survival. - [Orbital Racer Has a Futuristic Pilot Immersiveness That Can't Be Beat](https://mrdavepizza.com/orbital-racer-review/) - Orbital Racer is a realistic space-sim pilot racer originally released for PC in 2017, now available on Xbox One and Series X. At a standard indie game price for nominal quality, I think this is one of the best racing games I have ever played. Players are given a selection of ring wing fighter jets that can be raced with or without combat. Each race starts off in an area in orbit around a planet in our solar system. You will navigate your ship through HUD point rings with beautiful space scenery in the background and collect power-ups to earn your place in each competition, which is also customizable. Even with video game perks like the power-ups, it is highly realistic and one of the best space racers out there. - [Power Rangers Battle for the Grid is a Morphin' Good Time](https://mrdavepizza.com/power-rangers-battle-for-the-grid-button-mash-review/) - The Power Rangers Battle for the Grid DLC packs showed up on Steam today. I remembered I have been eager and hopeful about the core game which is available on Xbox Game Pass, and I knew what I had to do, review the core game! Whatever your cultural disposition, I suspect it's probably not hard to be aware of the Power Rangers--whatever your impression of them may be. For me, it was a show that catered to cool heroes fighting the ever-creative monsters on weekdays after school on TV! - [Wild Dive is A Pretty Cool Free 3D Runner Game](https://mrdavepizza.com/wild-dive-quick-review/) - Hello friends. Today I'm reviewing a really brief but beautiful and fun game called Wild Dive. You may have noticed some changes around here in content and how often I'm posting. No worries, this is still a regular blog, only I've been spending a little more of the time I allot for it on cosmetic aspects of the site and refining older posts. I'm not done yet, but it's getting there. I also am working on some new topics such as my Movies & TV section. It's not all about being popular for me, but I know most of you are here for the games, so let's go for it. Wild Dive is a well-received free runner game recently released on Steam that is making people wonder if there's more of this very brisk but super fun game. - [Catlateral Damage is A Hilarious Hidden Gem](https://mrdavepizza.com/catlateral-damage-a-mischievous-cat-game/) - Catlateral Damage is a game from Itch.IO that is so simple in concept, but so enjoyable that way! I also know it is time for another review! This game is part of a bundle I obtained and is one of many of the great games over at Itch. The game is about you, a cat, in a playground suitable for the mischievous antics of a cat. The objective of the game is to knock stuff off shelves, chase red lasers, and collect powerups. It is very amusing and a great game for anybody, because it is challenging and ready for an audience. - [Shu's Garden is a Slightly Old, Fun Hidden Gem I Found](https://mrdavepizza.com/shus-garden-review/) - Shu's Garden is a game that's part of the huge Itch.IO bundle release recently. It is essentially an open playground experience, with no strict rules or goals. Play a little space-cactus named Shu, a ball of shine with a friendly symbiotic tail that bounces around planets. This game holds up well over time, and even without any clear direction of strategy, it is still quite enjoyable as a mini-session or even tangential distraction. Let's take a look. - [Monster Pub is a Hidden Gem I Will Always Love](https://mrdavepizza.com/monster-pub/) - Monster Pub is a neat and funny narrative wrapped up in a nice isometric, pixel art game that is ultra-casual. You're whoever you want to be, a shadow-cloaked being, approached on a dark rainy street by a bright pink monster named Pfeffer. She leads you to a mysterious location that turns out to be a public house, for monsters, apparently based on the set for 80's TV show Cheers. Only here, it's where every *monster* knows your name. Let's play some sandwiches! - [GeoGuessr is The Best Browser Game You Can Play Right Now](https://mrdavepizza.com/geoguessr/) - GeoGuessr... Ahh, I've waited so long to delve into this one. I present to you today a non-traditional game review to showcase a game that is on the fringe of traditional games but so fresh and fun that everybody is finding out about it. GeoGuessr is a browser-based game that uses images from Google Streetview. You are dropped off in a random lat/long on Earth or whichever area/theme you specify and you use clues from your surroundings to find out where you are. Any person could easily bend the rules to win. For purists, on the other hand, it's a wonderful way to use reasoning and deduction to sharpen your geography skills. - [Fugl is a fun little nature themed indie game](https://mrdavepizza.com/fugl/) - The word Fugl means bird in Norwegian. Fugl is a casual sandbox indie game created by a small group of dedicated developers. Its story is whatever you make it, and the gameplay is most certainly endorsed by all birds. I started as a colorful neutral voxel bird in a voxel world and glide through the treetops and oceans, plus more. Interact with your environment to test new experiences. Transform into other birds, try neat stunts, and listen to the pleasant music that guides you through the map. To the skies! - [Tales Of The Neon Sea is a Colorful Yet Dark Cyberpunk Interactive Fiction](https://mrdavepizza.com/tales-of-the-neon-sea/) - Tales of the Neon Sea is a bright pixel art in the hardboiled cyberpunk detective style. It's also borderline platformer and adheres to a very high-density environment in synch with some of the best cyberpunk cinematics out there. Explore shadowy laboratories or deep dungeons sewers. This game is not for the light-hearted but it does deliver on content. This is probably the most sophisticated pixel art game I have ever played. Let's take a look. - [Twin Stones: The Journey of Bukka is the Staggering Freebie Student Game](https://mrdavepizza.com/twin-stones/) - Twin Stones: The Journey of Bukka is a 3d animated fantasy platformer due for release in early July 2021, in respect to now, very soon! As it were, I've received the privilege of showcasing my first pre-release game through my community at Indie Game Collective. The game is a very intriguing story involving protagonist Bukka, a runner for lack of a better word, and a, I suppose, serpent companion identified as Shiva, the god of destruction. The obstacles are fluid and bouncy, and the graphics are beautiful. I'll tell you what you need to know about this game and where you can find it. Let's take a look. - [Runo is a Finnish Game That I Absolutely Love](https://mrdavepizza.com/runo/) - Runo is a cultural indie game and a very unique project based on the Midsommer mythos from traditional Finnish culture. Its intellectual deduction and story track lead you through a complex story that involves the protagonist's grandmother and family tradition. The story takes place in a cabin next to a forested lake. The goal is to use clues from your dad's text messages, your personal journal, and what you observe around you. There is a deep mystical nature to this lake and in a simple quest to find your grandmother's hidden journal, you'll encounter a variety of exciting obstacles. - [Indoorlands is an Awesome New Theme Park Sim... Indoors](https://mrdavepizza.com/indoorlands/) - So, here we go with this first look at Indoorlands. Greetings gamers and spectators alike. Today, I have a showcase on a game coming soon to Steam in an early-access stage. I've acquired access to the game via my community at Indie Game Collective. I have a fondness for sims and a passion for indie games. So, I am mentally ready to try out Indoorlands I think. This is a concept with high sophistication for such an independent effort. And its bits and baubles are as shiny as the top contenders. - [UROS: A Trip Through Shadows is a New Freebie Student Game](https://mrdavepizza.com/uros-a-trip-through-shadows/) - UROS: A Trip Through Shadows is another game from the ESAT student game studio program in Valencia. I previously reviewed a title from this group called Twin Stones which was extremely fun. UROS is a 2D fantasy action platformer-style game that exhibits independent lore that borrows from Hades like underworld lore. As you progress through the map of UROS you will unlock new areas and obstacles and make your way toward, presumably, a scenario related to the opening storyline. Almost missed this one, but here we go with another review at Mr. Dave Pizza! - [Widget Satchel is an Interesting Hidden Gem](https://mrdavepizza.com/widget-satchel/) - Widget Satchel is a cross-platform indie platformer out a couple of years but still very fun and fresh. It is currently available through the Itch.IO Palestinian aid bundle. Widget Satchel is a delightful flat graphic style game, where you play as an adorable ferret upon a space station. You start off with a satchel and explore junk-filled levels and builds things. There is no game over or way of getting hurt, but plenty of challenging scenarios to try things out. Let's have a look. - [Say No! More is a Hilarious N64 Style Indie gem](https://mrdavepizza.com/say-no-more/) - Say No! More is a super narrative-driven comedy office sim. These office sims have been coming out of the wall lately, but this game is one of the most hilarious out there. It uses an experimental "combat"-like system, where you start a job as the internet at a big company, then, thanks to a motivational cassette tape, take over the compliance enforced company with the powerful magic word: NO! I snagged this game on sale and played through it to give you a first account of how it is. It's a great game, not just for the experience of playing it, but also because it is incredibly unique and provides a social commentary that is as relevant as metaphorical. I'll give you the details here. - [Existensis is a Little Known Indie Hidden Gem](https://mrdavepizza.com/existensis/) - Existensis is a hand-illustrated philosopher platformer game from the creative spirit of dev Librarium Oz. In Existensis you play as a masked character known as The Mayor, who is actually an artist. The objective is to gather inspiration in a journal so you can use it to create a tower to represent the journey of life. From situations and interactions with characters spread throughout vaulting platform areas and cities. You can learn more about your environment and gradually collect enough information/inspiration to enter swirling vortices around certain characters. They will help you teleport somewhere new and completely different so that you can collect even more inspiration. This game is beautiful, mystical, and one of the most interesting games I've ever played. Let me take you through it. - [Weaving Tides is a Hidden Gem I Played](https://mrdavepizza.com/weaving-tides/) - Weaving Tides sits comfortably in a genre of its own. Unlock a world map woven together through magic threads. You'll ride upon friendly creatures known as carpet dragons and weave new threads to move forward. With brilliant surface swapping mechanics that allow you to traverse impossible terrain, exquisite graphics, and smooth gameplay this is surely a work of art as much as a playable game. The artistic aspects of Weaving Tides are exquisite. You can just feel the silky textures of the world as you traverse, feeling perhaps you are enchanted, or simply on a very fine adventure. - [Mini Racing World is one of the Most Unique New Racing Games](https://mrdavepizza.com/mini-racing-world/) - Mini Racing World is a newly released game that fits comfortably into the big leagues of indie racer games. As you may know about me, but probably not, I'm quite fond of low poly racing games. There are not a lot of options available for this genre, so it is refreshing to see this out there. Mini Racing World is an indie race circuit and stunt track game with an emphasis on style with a generous margin for skill tiers. Customize your vehicle, hone your talent, and progress through a variety of tracks to play. Developers call driving in this game easy to control, difficult to master. That's just about right. So, let's get started and I'll tell you all about it. - [The Universim is a Fantastic New World Sim I Tried](https://mrdavepizza.com/the-universim/) - The Universim is a civilization simulator from Crytivo that combines features from planet sims with more advanced skill trees. The game touts a robust planet-level environment with the ability to manage the course of civilization from primal to advanced stages. The game is still in development but is going through a rigorous beta, although you can purchase the early access on Steam, which many have. I'm kind of reminded here of experiences of other sims out there, but I saw some things I haven't seen before too. Thanks to the collaboration between my friends at Indie Game Collective and Crytivo, I've obtained an early access copy and am here to tell you about it. So here we go. - [Unbound: Worlds Apart is a Unique & Thrilling Indie Out Now](https://mrdavepizza.com/unbound-worlds-apart/) - Unbound: Worlds Apart is a unique new 2D platformer with a fantasy twist and versatile special abilities. On the surface, it's a beautiful game, on par with the likes of Ori and the Will of the Wisps. On inspection, there's a heck ton of attention paid to the fine details of the environment. And when you actually play, solving puzzles with your special ability rolls off your controller quite intuitively. This is a high-quality production for those who love platformers and want to really see what's possible in this genre. If you're ready to brave a collapsing reality inexplicably parallel to a world of creepy crawly things, but recluse in your summonable portals, say that 5 times fast and push the dang portal button. - [Haven Park is One of the Best Cozy Park Life Sims](https://mrdavepizza.com/haven-park/) - Haven Park is here today and we’re happy to have it. Where to start? Let’s start with adorable cute animal heads making friends in the woods. I’m drawn to them the moment I glimpse at them, and my heart gets their attention quick. Haven Park is a three-dimensional open world that expands on the social crafting genre. And it’s a cool option the addresses demand for games of this nature. In Haven Park, you play a little yellow bird who essentially inherits a whole park from its grandmother, You are tasked to maintain the park, draw visitors in, and explore. With crafting, in-game market, and skill trees, this is a pretty feature-abundant game! Let’s take a look. - [Toodee and Topdee is one of the Best Indie Puzzlers Out](https://mrdavepizza.com/toodee-and-topdee/) - Toodee and Topdee is so far one of my favorite platformer concepts that I've ever tried. A while back I did a documentary review that talked a bit about the game Fez. While much different conceptually, they both have a neat mechanic that combined 2D platforming with shiftable perspectives. I'm not sure how efficiently I can describe this concept without getting into some straight-up academic theories involving geometry, so be sure to watch the video, but suffice to say it is really, really neat. Plus anybody can play! The game has a compelling intro with a demagogue world-merging backstory, and each level is a platform with locks and blocks, in what I want to say is kind of like the super old school game Chips Challenge mixed with Portal. I have some exciting thoughts on this, so let's get started. - [Mini Motorways is A Little Great Game About Traffic](https://mrdavepizza.com/mini-motorways/) - Mini-motorways is a delightful traffic planning sim released within the last month. It boasts charming flat graphic aesthetics with an intuitive casual style game experience. The sleek 2D environment bleeds indie simplicity worthy of a gaming machine or a new phone. The gameplay is relatively simple but allows interactive city planning in a selection of metropolitans all around the world. Start with a small group of structures within the map and drag road tiles and other traffic structures between color-coordinated structures to advance. As you progress, you'll learn tricks and skills to create a flawless infrastructure. I'm excited to take a look at this one with you, so let's get started! - [The Wratch's Den is a Feast of Excellent Challenges](https://mrdavepizza.com/the-wratchs-den/) - The Wratch's Den is a rogue-like dungeon builder from the depths of the PUNKCAKE Délicieux inventory on Itch.IO. The gameplay involves building a pixel art style base by mining the surrounding layers of cave rock. The core of the base is a simple brick square structure that houses a minotaur villain on a throne that oversees a group of minions. Progress is measured by how quickly you respond to crusading do-gooders and the retrieval of three magic orbs. When enough progress is made the arch-villain minotaur can research new areas in the base or even revive slain minions. This entire experience is procedurally generated and leads to casual replay value that is pretty dang fun. So, let me take you into the depths of The Wratch's Den, and tell you what I see. - [Cosmo's Quickstop is The Best, Alien Roleplay Co-Op](https://mrdavepizza.com/cosmos-quickstop/) - Cosmo's Quickstop is a hilarious new game out about an alien family who runs a gas station in outer space. It's your job to learn how to run things pretty much by yourself unless you're playing co-op. The game displays an absolutely fun design direction, with chunky colorful spaceship interiors and holographic control screens for tasks. It also has a goofy fun bug-eyed alien cast which reminds me of the excellent TV show Tripping the Rift. This may or may not be an inspiration, but it's a fun reference point either way. While you play, your new home is chock full of customer maintenance borderline crises that will have you chortling while you rush to keep up. I am loving this, so let's take a closer look - [Arietta of Spirits is a New Cozy Game I Played](https://mrdavepizza.com/arietta-of-spirits/) - Arietta, a young lady camping at grandma's cabin along with Arietta's mom and dad. Arietta meets a spirit named Arco during their first night. After Arietta's departed grandmother greets her on the cabin pier and sends her on a quest to retrieve a silver ring, things take a major turn. With some authentic metaphysical storytelling involving realms, ghosts, and spirits, the integrity of the spiritual aspect of this game is solid. In reward, it creates a game with a story with countless possibilities and storytelling. Let's take a look. - [Golfie is a Cozy New Golf Card Game Indie](https://mrdavepizza.com/golfie/) - Golfie is a new concept game from Triheart Studio labeled rogue-like deck-building mini-golf. They've just released a demo, and I was able to get a first-hand look at the game and its odds and ends. The environments are pleasant, gameplay fun, and I'd love to see more down the line. I had to doubletake the genre with all those tags, but it's a neat little game that actually maintained my attention quite a bit. The deck-building element was a double whammy because I know nothing of these things! Once again though, this feature is implemented in a really neat way as well. So there is plenty to observe and plenty and say. I think you're going to take an interest in this one, it's not your regular golf game. Let's get started! - [Hoa is a New Indie Adventure With a Magical Vibe](https://mrdavepizza.com/hoa/) - Hoa is an intricate hand-painted character and environment art platformer released this week. Visually it succeeds wonderfully with Miyazaki-like aesthetics in illustration, animation, and special effects. It also boasts an absolutely charming ambiance in its background music plus sound effects that are cinematic in quality and effect. It also is available in 10 different languages right from its launch. I feel very relaxed playing Hoa, and even watching someone playing it can be very pleasant. If you have ever been a fan of Totoro or woodland creatures with endearing hearts, fall in love as I did with the game Hoa. Let's take a look. - [Doggone Hungry: This Good Boy Wants All Of Your Snacks NOW](https://mrdavepizza.com/doggone-hungry/) - Doggone Hungry is a lovely little PC doggo game about an adorable pup, his favorite toy, some loveable humans, and that gosh darn cat. You'll pounce against the clock to acquire enough, and by enough I mean as many as he wants, snacks to bulk up and solve the exasperating crises of your unreachable toy duck Quackerjack. The style is a colorful pretty much low poly location-based game filled with humans relaxing and occasionally opening doors for you. Don't be so quick to bark after lunching on some prepared hot dogs they had sitting out because you will get caught! They will just put you in timeout though. This game is so cute and so pleasant, (also it's free), so I just had to choose this as today's free-for-all showcase. - [Timothy Vs The Aliens Might be the ONLY Noir Alien Invasion Game](https://mrdavepizza.com/timothy-vs-the-aliens/) - Timothy Vs The Aliens is a moderate difficulty action-adventure that takes place in a 1940s'ish era gangster-ruled city. Timothy, the protagonist, is a likable ace who derives superhuman luck from an ace of hearts given to him by a race of alien masters when he was a child. In this hardboiled work, worlds and their creatures are separated by fluorescent-colored, googly-eyed aliens and the stark black and white nighttime of the city in which Timothy resides. The story & introduction is straightforward, but the real main draw of this game is the action. Using old school weapons, it's up to you to blast away squishy aliens and get to the bottom of the alien invasion in Little Fish City. Okay, let's do this. - [non - The First Warp is a Bizarre Alien Puzzle Game](https://mrdavepizza.com/non-the-first-warp/) - "non - The First Warp" is a unique puzzle-platformer released this summer. It stirs up themes of hypnagogic-like environments and alien sci-fi worlds, that feels like a strew of estranged organs and strange puzzles. Okay, I'm in. Play a purple alien in this squishy puzzle environment, where cluess seem to live within the structure of the game like some giant biological telephone book. - [Glyph is A New Hidden Gem Platformer I Played](https://mrdavepizza.com/glyph/) - Indie Game Collective. I was curious about Glyph, primarily because of the smooth and colorful graphics, pretty apparently Egyptian theme, and also because, while I don't excel at puzzle platformers, I am getting better. And naturally, I just wanted to test my skills at what seems to be an extremely feature-rich game. I made it peacefully through quite a bit of the intro in the recorded gameplay and learned enough to tell you about this interesting game. Take to the ground or sky, and propel into this post. - [Kick Bot is a Fast Paced Platformer That Has a Terrific Demo](https://mrdavepizza.com/kick-bot/) - Spikes, saws, laser beams, the whole works. There are also springing platforms, stomp areas, and wall edges that you can grip to pretty well with some slight entropy, but that's no problem as you can also climb the walls before you leap to the other side. If you're not familiar with this type of game, timing is everything. Timing is everything in Kick Bot. Oh yeah, the reason it's called "Kick Bot?" ... A robot with a giant boot kicks you through the roof when you complete a level. Hey, why not? - [Sable - This is a Strange Game But Freaking Beautiful](https://mrdavepizza.com/sable-open-world/) - "Sable" is a very promising story-rich open world game with lots of punch in the aesthetics and some very captivating design qualities. Most noticeably, is the 2D illustration in a 3D environment, but also the story. Gamers will feel like they are flipping through a really high-quality graphic novel that has come to life on whatever system they're using to play it on. - [Onirism is A Colorful Dream & Nightmare World](https://mrdavepizza.com/onirism-tripping-the-chroma-fantastique/) - "Onirism" is a good example of another game where French indie dev teams are making games potent in fun and translates to a wide audience. This goes beyond exaggeration and is an interesting subject to me, but one which I don't know a lot about. Regardless, I committed to this game, so I'll take you through a brief but satisfactory run down of the world of Onirism. Additionally, the game recently received a major update and has a ton of new content. Let's go!! - [T-Minus 30 is a Chilling but Unique New Indie](https://mrdavepizza.com/t-minus-30/) - T-Minus 30 is a top-down city sim, with an apocalyptic twist, and a rather casual, no, ultra-casual gameplay style. I know some are great fans in the apocalyptic genre, and I definitely have been before, so I was actually very surprised at the relaxing aspects of this survival sim. T-Minus 30 took care of my personal checklist for a casual game so easily that I felt essentially at peace as I played it. With a 30 minute gameplay under my belt, I have my impressions on this ultimate quick sim indie. And yes, T-Minus 30 is 30 minutes, the length of time you have to build a space fleet of survivors before well, you know. Let's get started on the review. - [Monster League Will Make You Think Differently About Kart Racing Games](https://mrdavepizza.com/monster-league/) - It did The Mash! Monster League is essentially a complete kart racing Halloween game from the makers of Medieval Dynasty. It sits on the roster of Early Access titles and has since 2019, but fans are still playing it and are still nudging the team for a full release even now. Nobody really knows what is happening, but I had a lot of fun with this game and encourage you to purchase it at its fairly modest price for your co-op party, your Twitch, or just playing something different. At the very least, why not be a bit thematic and go for the Halloween vibe this fall. - [Alchemic Cutie is a Bright, Colorful, & Adventurous RPG](https://mrdavepizza.com/alchemic-cutie-stinky-alchemy-on-purpose-first-impressions/) - Update: Alchemic Cutie is, once again, a game running across my desk, slated for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5 for June 2023. I really have no particular context for describing it after so long, but when I tested it on PC I felt that it fits into the few neat descriptors of bright, colorful, cute. - [The Gunk is Simply a Kinda Random 3D World Game on Game Pass, But I Enjoyed It](https://mrdavepizza.com/the-gunk-game-review-follow-the-pipe-collect-alien-junk-new-on-game-pass/) - Discovered through Game Pass, I'm rather fond of this new title, The Gunk, from Image and Form/Thunderful Development, just launched a few days ago. It fits neatly into the category of games I usually enjoy which are casual character development, soft sci-fi, and familiar mechanics of resource collecting games. And this version of those styles is well presented here. While the game is really very straightforward without much need for introduction, a quality I appreciate, I'll share some highlights on my experience playing through the first few areas plus what you should know about this game. - [Necrow Co. is a Fun Little Platformer](https://mrdavepizza.com/necrow-co-a-gameboy-style-platformer-about-a-soul-reaping-crow/) - If this headline doesn't raise an eyebrow, then stick with two, because this article is tapping into some unexplored territory with the game Necrow Co. by creator Zahran Worell. The game Necrow Co. is a 2D pixel platformer, playable with either a controller or keyboard. It's a light narrative about a crow who starts work for a company of reapers, featuring a cozy skeleton psychopomp grim dispatching you to a national park filled with spookies, squishies, and don't-touchies (terms coined on our end.) Abilities are basic: move left and right, jump, and shoot a sort-of crow song wave that disables mobs. Necrow Co. is a charming adventure, and despite the grim theme, fairly soft on the player. Let's take a look. - [Is Pizza Express the Predecessor to Good Pizza, Great Pizza?](https://mrdavepizza.com/pizza-express-retro-pizzeria-game-that-fed-my-hunger/) - My hunger for low-res grounded pixel games lately opened me up to a stellar sale on a game called Pizza Express. Pizza Express is an indie pixel-graphic pizzeria simulator about a fast-paced solo restaurant run by animal friends Gastone the cat and Lucky the rabbit--and also you. The game is fairly simple but incorporates playful dialogue and gameplay that is quirky in the best indie-adhering ways. It is very similar to the game Good Pizza, Great Pizza, but is older and definitely a bit more grassroots. I enjoyed it very much, so I've decided to bring this review of it together for your reference. Please enjoy. - [Dadish 2 is an Amazing Radish-Themed Epic Adventure](https://mrdavepizza.com/dadish-2-a-game-about-a-radish-dad-review/) - I'm spending time playing a lot of food games lately. While cooking sims are the most obvious manifestation of this, platformers like Dadish 2 are right on board too. Dadish 2 is a continuation of the original Dadish game and both are available on most platforms. You, Dadish, awake from a nap at work one day when your several radish children come to visit you for "bring your kids to work day." They convince you to leave the chainsaw and cannon-filled office building and set off into this weird world. Dadish 2 has a narrative that is humorously inconsistent but is very entertaining and quirky. - [Donut County is Definitely Immature and Has GREAT Dialogue](https://mrdavepizza.com/donut-county-a-non-stinky-game-the-hole-review/) - Forgive, me, because we're about to "dive into" some game material from the past. All the way back to the year 2018. Which isn't really that long ago, making the sentiment of that sentence nearly arbitrary actually. Donut County is on its fourth year after release, and I've been meaning to play it for about half of that time. Why did I wait so long? I have no idea, but anything that was offsetting about it has vanished from any of my pre-conceptions. Donut County is a hilarious, strategy-based game from Annapurna Interactive, a publisher of some really good indie games. - [Pupperazzi - Cute Dog Photography Game](https://mrdavepizza.com/pupperazzi-the-doggos-are-here-review/) - Dogs dashing, catching, posing, and dogs riding scooters to surfboards throughout the whole game. Pupperazzi is a comedy game with a pretty clean content concept. In all honesty, I initially wasn't too interested in the game, until I saw it was on Xbox Gamepass where I tried it for free. To my surprise, I found this game very funny, and it had enough achievement-based gameplay that it was actually quite fun. I know games like this aren't for everybody, but I thought it was a good romp that didn't require too much brainpower. So, here we go with my complete thoughts on Pupperazzi. - [Village Monsters: A Pleasant Town Sim Borrowing From Made Up Myths](https://mrdavepizza.com/village-monsters-an-outsider-town-sim-review/) - Village Monsters is a solo dev project from Josh Bosser. It's a pixel art town sim that departs from conventional titles with an alternative community of friendly monsters. The game plays on similar genre themes as Stardew Valley but the content goes into the outsider/quirk genre of games with its monster acceptance communicated in each character's unconventional friendliness. It departs from too much comparison by offering a vast amount of exclusive unique story concepts in each characters' backstory and dialogue. Players can also enjoy activities like treasure hunting, fishing, exploring, working, and contributing to the town itself. Village Monsters is pleasantly surprising and the subject of this indie game collective showcase/review post. So, let's see what's inside! - [Dogurai - Heck Yeah, a Doggo Samurai!](https://mrdavepizza.com/dogurai-game-boy-demo-review/) - Dogurai by HungryBear is a Game Boy-style indie Metroidvania. I know about it through, a couple of co-creators from Indie Game Collective. Thank you, Jaunty Adventures and Pursuing Pixels. Their taste is superb, as this turned out to be an exciting game. I've covered very few Game Boy titles here, aside from Lasagna Boy and... actually, that might be it. It's a great genre if you want to get into indies. In summary, the designs are aligned with the palette and rendering of old-school Game Boy games. This one in particular is a nice platformer/Metroidvania that takes you through some moderately challenging levels. There are ruffian henchmen, shielded hulks, and old-school SMB 3-style bosses. In my video, I had to jump around like more of a ninja to obliterate the first boss. - [Labyrinth City - A Family Friendly Where's Waldo? Type Game](https://mrdavepizza.com/labyrinth-city-pierre-the-maze-detective-review/) - It's been some time since a game like this has been featured on MrDavePizza, but Labyrinth City: Pierre the Maze Detective absolutely belongs. As a game that originated in a book series, the game takes many cues from the visual classics of growing up. Incidentally, I was a big fan of books like Where's Waldo? and Eye Spy, which are similar in scope and content as Pierre the Maze Detective--perhaps you remember too. So, let's get into this, what is Labyrinth City? It's a top-down puzzle game with hand-drawn characters in a visual feast of eccentric characters and scenes, through which you must navigate through a maze of people to track down the devious "Mr. X." I spent some time playing it so you can know what to expect from this delightful indie with a charming and surprising origin to a perfectly playable game form. Okay, let's have a look. - [Starbound - Completing the First Planet Quickly For Beginners](https://mrdavepizza.com/starbound-completing-the-first-planet-guide/) - In Starbound, you use Terraria-style mining mechanics to collect materials and progress through the galaxy. This game was released in 2016. It has had some resurgence thanks to a re-release of the game on the invaluable Xbox PC Game Pass platform. I figured since I didn't find immediate coverage of my own questions, new players may be wondering how to progress in this game. The game takes place in outer space. It has a plotline involving being stranded in space after a cataclysmic invasion destroys the planet. With some basic tools, you're left to fend for your own. With a damaged spaceship, you escape to the orbit of a wild alien planet. Now that everyone knows the background, let's get into how to make it past the first planet! - [Rotund Zero is a Super Cheap Preview of the Rotund Franchise](https://mrdavepizza.com/rotund-zero-igc-showcase/) - Back with another Indie Game Collective showcase for Rotund Zero. It's a precision platformer with a Game Boy monochrome style that uses directional keys only to solve puzzle levels made of bouncing blocks. It's only $1.99 on Steam at the moment and encourages problem-solving in timed runs. You have 5 minutes to complete as many levels as possible, and there are 26 levels, 1 for every letter of the alphabet! You'll be on your toes to speedrun all of those levels, but the pressure is mild. Watch the YouTube video at the top of this article to see me run, a genuine but beginner, 5-minute run. I've been trying to cover more Game Boy-style retro games, so thank you to the developer and publisher Dahku for providing the key! - [Haiku the Robot is a Surprising New Indie I Played](https://mrdavepizza.com/haiku-the-robot-igc-showcase-review/) - Yep, Haiku the Robot is about robots, although you're more likely to catch on fire before most of its poetics! It's a dystopic pixel platformer with a variety of routes to navigate through. The tunnels are left from the aftermath of an apocalyptic turn. It does have somewhat of a narrative for the first minute. Mostly, you'll be in the heat of battle. You are thrown into the general theme of trying to find your way around immediately. Thankfully, maps are available. - [Firegirl: Hack 'n Splash Rescue is a Neat 2.5D French Firefighting Game](https://mrdavepizza.com/firegirl-hack-n-splash-rescue-review/) - So, first off, a correction to my YouTube video here, Firegirl: Hack 'n Splash Rescue actually released in December. With the permission of the publisher, we've been allowed to take another look at this game. According to reviews and members in the Indie Game Collective, patches to this game earlier in 2022 have made the game substantially more playable. I never tried that original version, but concur that the current state of the game is as seamless and responsive as it could be. - [Hayai is an Awesome Artistic Enemy Hell With Samurai Action](https://mrdavepizza.com/hayai-ronin-score-attack-game/) - Haiyai is a pretty cool game. I played another game like it recently called Pizza Tactics, but only in the sense that the main mechanic is drawing a path with my mouse. Really though, Haiyai is a full-feature game aimed at casual play. Control one of 5 Ronin, and clear hordes of enemies swarming from the sides of the map by dragging a line between the individual enemies in one long swipe. It could double as a mobile game, but I really enjoyed playing it on my computer. Huge cool feature here though, you can actually play this with a drawing tablet if you like! That is a new one for me. I am guilty of saying that I will replay a lot of games that I never do but this one is so easy that I could just open it up and play whenever. - [New Indie Game Binge During May 2022](https://mrdavepizza.com/new-indie-games-may-2022/) - Ah, so many new ways of doing things here at Mr. Dave Games. I think probably the most notable change has been the expansion of my YouTube operations. I've covered a whole 18 new indie games this month, including one switch game (Vesper.) If you think this is a lot, wait until next month, when things are going to get very serious. I've also uploaded three new tutorials to my channel, which are doing great. Woo hoo! Okay, yes, YouTubing showcases has allowed me to cover more content, but this blog is just as important and as I pursue new projects, this one is just as important for me. So, as a kind of hybrid concept post, let's go over what was played in May 2022. - [Kraino Origins Spins My Spooky Indie Wheels](https://mrdavepizza.com/kraino-origins/) - Here we go with Kraino Origins. Add this to your Halloween Indie Game countdowns, because it's got enough spook for the whole community. This game feels like it was made from the plucking of my own seasonal heart string, with its borderline creep-fest color scheme and environment. Slash your way through constant monsters, zombies, and ghouls in this 2D platformer that spans 8 bosses--now out on Steam! - [Have You Tried Terrene? Check Out This Indie Bit-Art Space Dev](https://mrdavepizza.com/terrene-an-evidence-of-life-game-is-fantastic/) - Hey, thanks to JustWall Games for letting me try Terrene: An Evidence of Life. This is an indie open-world space exploration game with some sweet pixel graphics and the types of deep-cut quirks that make me play indies, seriously. I didn't know what to expect at first, to be honest. I suspected some kind of multi-faceted character system based, but that is only part of it. Actually, there are so many open-ended exploration features that I could see exploring the vastness of space could be relaxing and interesting. If you like games like Starbound or Terraria, be sure to check this out. - [Nordic Ashes Takes on the Enemy Hell Genre With Viking Warriors](https://mrdavepizza.com/nordic-ashes-survivors-of-ragnarok/) - Nordic Ashes: Survivors of Ragnarok is a ride and a vibe--or whatever these new Midgardians call things. It was a great time trying the early access on Steam, and I'll tell you about it. This is a passive auto-combat... roguelike--it's a Vampire Survivors type game basically. Overall, these are good fun, and anybody can play - [Does Cuphead Have an Easy Mode? Not Really, but Kind of...](https://mrdavepizza.com/cuphead-on-easy-mode-by-using-mods-is-fantastic/) - Is there really a Cuphead easy mode? The legendary game Cuphead, as we know it, harks back to a potent generation of ambitious indie breakthroughs. Yes, back in good old 2017, it was released on Steam and Xbox with others after for our joy--and perhaps torment. Incidentally, this is the main, if not the only, - [Cult of the Lamb is an Odd but Amusing Game](https://mrdavepizza.com/cult-of-the-lamb-demo-free-on-steam-is-twisted/) - I've been waiting way too long to try Cult of the Lamb. From its conceptual uniqueness to its popularity, I've been waiting (shudder.) I like to ask why people do certain things--like why everybody from a certain culture believes in the same thing but others don't. OR: Why does this cute indie game exist about - [Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition is Excellence Beyond the Veil (I Finally Tried It)](https://mrdavepizza.com/spiritfarer-cozy-spirit-is-special/) - Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition touches my heart in a way that's genuine and welcome. It's one thing for a game to speak of the hereafter as a storyline, but another to make one truly wonder as this game does. It is also an excellent example of intentional gameplay that makes you want to keep going deeper - [Grow: Song of the Evertree Is a Unicorn Wrapped in Cotton Candy](https://mrdavepizza.com/grow-song-of-the-evertree-is-a-great-farm-sim/) - If you have ever picked up a farm sim as a sim lover, you might feel there is no limit to how absolutely open and customizable the cozy mechanics are. That's what is going on in Grow: Song of the Evertree, a resource-gathering sim that appeals to a family-friendly player. As you progress in Grow, - [Bear & Breakfast is a Life Sim With All The BEAR Necessities!](https://mrdavepizza.com/bear-and-breakfast-review/) - Finally, I sat down with the tremendous Bear & Breakfast, a game I'd wanted to try since last year. Now, my personal quest has resumed with a plunge headfirst into this BEARY good game. Here are my thoughts on all the vast building and crafting systems, quests, and exploration features that make this game so - [Revisiting: Black Skylands - an Amazing Accomplishment in Game Design](https://mrdavepizza.com/black-skylands/) - Black Skylands is an immersive fantasy skypunk RPG that takes place in the colorful airborne landscapes of another world. As an indie gamer, this is indeed one of the most optimistic projects I've looked at, and yet very promising indeed. Take the helm of a family airship and float between islands in the sky to claim your stake. This review was sponsored by a free copy, which I am really grateful for, so let's g - [Inkbound is a Fantastic Indie MMO & Magical Rogue-Like You'll Love!](https://mrdavepizza.com/inkbound-is-a-fantastic-indie-mmo-magical-rogue-like-youll-love/) - MMORPGs get tossed into the indie content spin room all the time these days, generally with a slight irreverence. Inkbound is different though, it has A LOT of potential. I sat down with the game at my PC to test out a new character in this magical book-themed MMO. Is Inkbound actually "a world" yet? - [Travellers Rest Has All I Want in an Innkeeping Sim](https://mrdavepizza.com/travellers-rest-has-all-i-want-in-a-medieval-life-sim/) - Grab your mop, bring your Stardew Valley membership card, and head into olden times with Travellers Rest. Yes, I literally just started this game, so I'll continue to update this as time goes on, but I'm already hooked. I do in fact still love that old classic Stardew Valley, a basic grounding point for this - [Haunt The House: Terrortown is a colorful spookfest](https://mrdavepizza.com/haunt-the-house-terror-town-its-spooky-but-not-scary/) - This review was written last year but is still a fine suggestion for Halloween, which will probably be my only focus for the next few posts. I wanted to offer something that is compatible with whatever affectation you have this All Hallows Eve, so I stumbled upon a game called Haunt the House: Terrortown. Or rather it popped up on my Steam store (although, bonus: it's on macOS too!) It's basically a borderline Tim Burton funhouse-style game. Your mission, as the protagonist cartoony ghost, is to possess items throughout four moderately-sized levels. Try to scare as many NPC characters as possible by spinning around paintings or making decorations walk around. Nearly everything is interactable too, which has always been a plus for me in games. - [The Best Pinball Video Games For Your Budget](https://mrdavepizza.com/ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-🚨/) - Share this post:Remember pinball? Not only remember it but are you a “pinball wizard” as it were? Well, here we go again. Today I’m going to share a game that is available on both Mobile and PC platforms. The game is Pinball Deluxe: Reloaded. There is also apparently some background with Blackberry devices long before - [Slime Rancher, the Original Game, is the One That Started it All](https://mrdavepizza.com/slime-rancher-if-youve-got-the-time-its-got-the-slime-🦠/) - You're an adventurous protagonist named Beatrix who has settled down on her uncle's ranch on an alien planet where the landscape is occupied by canyons of shiny cute blobs of a variety of species and value. Also some chickens. Which... some slimes eat. Moving on. Yer not from around here, are you? So, what is - [The Beggar's Ride is a Terrific Old Indie You Should Know About](https://mrdavepizza.com/the-beggars-ride-unlock-the-powers-of-the-gods/) - The idea of this game is you basically start a journey in an unknown path as a quiet beggar. You soon learn that you possess the powers of a god. Clouds are shifted, vessels are filled, and the beat goes on. Players have described this game as having an emotional impact on them. I can relate. The Beggar’s Ride has some cool storytelling choices that give you some context for why this is happening. It’s also something I notice that “quality” games tend to utilize, since it gives you a reason to keep playing. This is a good move, because it’s honestly a little random otherwise. Not that I’m complaining, but I’m really grateful the narrator and gorgeous info blurbs around the edges of the platform. - [OPUS: The Day We Found Earth Taught Me Robots are Beautiful](https://mrdavepizza.com/opus-the-day-we-found-earth-robots-are-beautiful/) - I think I recently made a comment that, as I get older, the more I make the heartbreaking conclusion that mankind will never explore the galaxy due to physics and entropy. What a bummer. What if we had explored it though? And what if we went so far that we couldn't find our way back. That's what's going on in OPUS: The Day We Found Earth. - [OPUS Rocket of Whispers is Beautiful & Full of DEEP Gameplay](https://mrdavepizza.com/opus-rocket-of-whispers-stay-positive/) - Mysterious backstory, cosmic balance, ancestral duty. Stop me if you've heard this one before. Heavy topics, yes, but not to worry. This game is poetry, and these types of themes are in the prequel OPUS: The Day We Found Earth. It seems that there is even a theme in common between that game and OPUS - [Carto: Pieces of the Map is a Terrific puzzle exploration game](https://mrdavepizza.com/carto-pieces-of-the-map/) - Finally, my love of tile board games like Carcassonne has been revived. But it's completely different mind you. Carto is a tile-placement puzzle released to much praise last year. My first impressions were very positive, but I set them aside until today. It's a terrific game! While it's probably the best adjective, I'm not really - [Cloudpunk is A Game That Deserves Awards For What it Has Accomplished](https://mrdavepizza.com/cloudpunk-a-hardboiled-sci-fi-game/) - The way games roll out in relation to cult themes these days feel like popping a bean bag chair full of glitter. Shiny and colorful, but spreading everywhere. Cloudpunk IS DEFINITELY a cyberpunk game. Life exists in an oppressively technological Babylon run by criminal overlords and the rebellious underdogs to send it tumbling--not always in - [Lo-Fi Room is One of the First Indie Games I Played](https://mrdavepizza.com/lo-fi-room-indie-hip-beats-hero/) - When everything is put together, the final song compilation is pretty good. A lot of people were commenting on the Itch.IO page that they liked the music and I happen to agree. And as far as aesthetics go, this is a pretty successful at being a lo-fi indie concept from the artwork to the music to the gameplay. I dig. - [Balloon o Mania is a Free Indie Hidden Gem](https://mrdavepizza.com/balloon-o-mania-travel-in-style/) - I have been attempting to perfect my gentleman speak for like over a decade now. It’s a lost cause. What I do know, however, is that I am a video game blogger and not Lord Alfred Tennyson. I’ll do my best not to too scuff your wingtips, Oxfords, Mary Janes, Pumas, Jordans, or other fancy footwear in this review of Balloon O Mania. - [Super Indie Karts is the Only indie mario kart Competition Out There](https://mrdavepizza.com/super-indie-karts-preview/) - Super Indie Karts is an independently developed game at the assistance of a pit crew of beta gamers who are testing a kart based racing game for PC. Most notably, it features actual video game characters from a number of indie games. Everything in the game is designed to represent the popular indie game aesthetic with the fun gameplay of a kart racing game. - [SteamWorld Dig 2 and Why I'll Always Love Steampunk](https://mrdavepizza.com/steamworld-dig-2-review/) - SteamWorld Dig 2 is a 2D platformer about a society of humanoid robots, particularly the protagonist Dorothy McCrank, that's you. The village is plagued by earthquake-ridden mines beneath a village from which they are generally dependent on the ore mined. - [VirtuaVerse is a Point & Click in the Dark Cyberpunk World Of Indie](https://mrdavepizza.com/virtuaverse-demo-review/) - VirtuaVerse is an indie cyberpunk pixel art point and click adventure that exudes what some might think of as classic cyberpunk. You, a hacker named Nathan, wake in your apartment, which your girlfriend has changed the exit code to. Stylistically it appeals to an aesthetic of disheveled, neon glow surrounded by cybernetic paraphernalia. Solve enigmatic puzzles to progress the story. - [OPUS: Echo of Starsong is a New Staggering & Attractive Game](https://mrdavepizza.com/opus-echo-of-starsong/) - "OPUS Echo of Starsong" is a narrative sci-fi drama taking place in the far reaches of lawless space, created by SIGONO, the developer of the OPUS series. I covered the previous two OPUS games in the series last year, and they were very popular, accounting for a ton of traffic on my site! I also thoroughly enjoyed them. So, when I started off today learning that I would have an opportunity to cover the third OPUS game in the series, OPUS Echo of Starsong, which was just released on September 1st, I was super excited! This series has so much to offer in interpersonal character development, art design, and dramatic storytelling. It is no wonder fans love OPUS. So let's get started. - [Ninja Turtles Funko T-Shirt and Ghostbusters DVD](https://mrdavepizza.com/ninja-turtles-van-funko-pop-t-shirt-and-ghostbusters-5-dvd-unboxing/) - I read in the news that shipping bottlenecks are uncomfortably poignant this year. It's like every time we get some new way to make things faster, the system gets flooded by shoppers. I wondered even if I should order anything at all. In the process of doing some gift shopping, however, I noticed Target has a deal for free shipping over $35. I'm not totally fond of these humongous retailers on principle, but they can be a good source for fandom memorabilia. So, I picked up this Funko Pop Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cardboard turtle van packaged t-shirt. And because they had it, I grabbed a DVD of the original Ghostbusters film DVD for $5! I don't do many unboxings here, but I could start. Enjoy some pictures and a bit of brief commentary. - [I Found the SNES Style Bumballon for Under a Dollar, and it was GREAT](https://mrdavepizza.com/bum-ballon-review/) - I've got a great video up for Bum Ballon on my YouTube channel because I found this game on a Steam sale for 89 cents! With some investigation, I narrowed down some impulse options for pixel art platformers in the likes of some recent faves like Grapple Dog (which hopefully I'll get to) and PomPom. It's a game with unique characters and a traditional SNES-type side scroller plot--a game that personally puts me into an optimized chill mode. Basically, hop in a cannon, and, after blast-off, interact as you're taken for a ride through a colorful world with unique obstacles and moderate challenges. - [How to Find Free Games on Steam](https://mrdavepizza.com/how-to-find-new-free-games-on-steam-store/) - This is a tutorial on how to find and download free games on Steam. If you're familiar with the Steam client store or website, you might know the layout can be incredibly open-ended. I use it every day, and it is one of my most useful resources. This allows for some exploration of methods to filter new games posted. Steam is considered one of the most essential clients for finding new game releases for digital download on PC. It is home to tens of thousands of retail, but also free, games. - [Why Are Indie Games Popular Now? - The Truth](https://mrdavepizza.com/why-are-indie-games-popular/) - First of all, indie games are my favorite "genre." I think this is an important cultural phenomenon--and also a fun one--but for argument, let's scrutinize it. So, Indie games usually have fewer details, less polished graphics, and are often focused on the simpler things, so why are indie games popular? And additionally, I might even ask, are they? I've been playing and writing about indie games for a couple of years now and I have seen so many genres and concepts that make the games I used to play seem unnecessarily photorealistic and expensive. Knowing what goes into game development actually helped me realize the simple joys of low-scale projects scattered across Steam and the bizarrely creative ItchIO platforms. I'm going to answer this question, because well, I need to, and it's an important question. - [Beginner Guide - Walkthrough, Tips, Tricks, and SECRETS - Stardew Valley](https://mrdavepizza.com/stardew-valley-a-praiseworthy-staple-game-about-farming-fishing-sleeping-and-living/) - The game is Stardew Valley. To the inaugural conception of this blog, I have overlooked one game without process to a fault. This is partially due to highly unnecessary and totally imagined intimidation. I've always possessed a de facto reverence for this game too, as it is lauded by nearly everyone who has played it. In the last few days before this article, something started happening that made its brilliance totally obvious to me, and I'm rushing to get it all down here. One, I set aside some appropriate sit-down time to try the game and figure out what it's about. Two, all roads seem to lead to Stardew Valley, and it is this which has unlocked my opinion. - [How to Cheat in Untitled Goose Game With Mods](https://mrdavepizza.com/how-to-install-cheat-mods-for-untitled-goose-game-epic-and-steam/) - There's no question that as cozy and casual as Untitled Goose Game is, it's still pretty difficult. I don't judge people for using cheat mods, I show them how to use them safely. Today, I've got a great cheat mod for Untitled Goose Game that you need to try out if you're on PC and - [Pompom is A Challenging, Colorful Hamster Platformer](https://mrdavepizza.com/pompom-the-great-space-rescue-review/) - The recently released pixel platformer Pompom: The Great Space Rescue ran across my desk as a showcase opportunity through my friends at Indie Game Collective. It's a precision platformer, sort of, with a feature I've never seen before this involving time slowing AND improvised platform placement. You can play with a controller, or you can play it with a mouse (or hamster actually, since that is Pompom's main character you play as.) The game balances innovative gameplay, a moderate learning curve, and generous leniency to keep your gameplay flowing. I'm thoroughly enjoying it, at the level of some other top precision platformers like Celeste. From the pleasant pixel art to the rewarding gameplay, this game earns every slice in the Mr. Dave Pizza pie. So, let me do my duty and share with you some information about this excellent game. Also, I made a cam appearance for the first time on this game's video--with my favorite hat! Not sure why, just felt like doing it. ## Pages - [ebaytemplate](https://mrdavepizza.com/ebaytemplate/) - [About Mr. Dave Pizza](https://mrdavepizza.com/about-me/) - PUBLISHERS, RECRUITERS, & DEVELOPERS: If you need to contact me about a business matter, email me at dave@mrdavepizza.com If you’d like me to review your game go here: https://www.mrdavepizza.com/showcasing-services-and-content-creation/ A little personal info about me: I have worked in several industries like bookselling, fundraising, and customer service.
