The Big Journey is an Old Indie Game Involving Cats & Dumplings

Hey, when you say ā€œroll around a dumpling-eating cat,ā€ do you mean that literally? You do? Really? Okay, I’m in. Play The Big Journey and roll around a cat, who should be named Alpuss Dumplingdore (do not deny what a perfect name that would be.) Alright, alright. There’s nothing that bizarre about this game. Firstly, The Big Journey is unique, however, once you jump in, it’s pretty fleshed out. Secondly, despite the weird concept, it’s highly rewarding. Finally, I think we’re all a little bit used to those by now, us gamers, aren’t we? So, next up, let’s play!

2020, Goodbye, and Thanks for my Gaming Hermitage

What the delightful year 2020 was. I really can’t say enough for the levels of complexity and hardworking teamwork my community and the world have taken upon themselves to uphold themselves to the safety of their fellow man and the restoration of peace and order to a situation uncouth. That streamed from my hands like a biting witful shark attack but I actually kind of mean it in a wobbly but sincere way. It’s been bad, I know, real bad, but not all bad, just a little more bad and covering a broader spectrum of things to care about. I’ve accomplished more this year than I have in my whole life, although I do miss summer sidewalks and drive-thru impulse purchases.

“Cyberpunk” as a Genre And Not Just 2077

It's everywhere now. It's downloaded into your cortex. Drips off the neon katakana of your tube hotel vacancy sign. It's hidden in the channel tuned to static on your peripheral, cyphered, cybernetic headset. It provides the foundation as well as the motivation for things high above its paygrade, but it is still only a literary genre--beyond video games. "Cyberpunk." I'm talking simstim, black mesa stuff here, not Grand Theft Hovercar.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 is Pretty Solid, And There Are Cheat Codes

The subtitle ā€œIt’s All Hereā€ says it all. I’ve tried a few Marvel games over the years, and I’ve seen a good handful of the movies. Never really delved into the comics, but I feel they are well represented in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2. I went into this game thinking maybe it’d be isolated to Avengers characters without much divergence. There are PLENTY of Marvel Heroes in this game though, and you’ll have no trouble finding them. Within the first couple of chapters of game I played or interacted with the Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor, She-Hulk, Wasp, Gwenpool and more.

Slime Rancher, the Original Game, is the One That Started it All

You're an adventurous protagonist named Beatrix who has settled down on her uncle's ranch on an alien planet where the landscape is occupied by canyons of shiny cute blobs of a variety of species and value. Also some chickens. Which... some slimes eat. Moving on. Yer not from around here, are you? So, what is the point of this? Or the goal, to be a little more specific. Well, it's basically a high-quality vacuum cannon survival sim. This game is super wholesome--and fun. The slimes remind me of the sparrows that visit our backyard in the daytime to get food…

Everybody Really Needs to Play The Sims At Some Point

The Sims is a wonderful game, even for its beneficial mental health effects alone. I've been a casual player of The Sims for decades. When I was about midway through The Sims 3 seasons I wondered if this game needed to go further. Creative dedication to these ideas is where we are headed. Information literally is the most profitable commodity.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars is The Ultimate Mario Game (And You Can’t Have It)

Super Mario 3D All Stars for all parties interested, is a special release from Nintendo this year for the Switch which contains three classic Mario games spruced up for HD and available for a limited time offer in physical as well as digital form. They're serious about the limited time too, which has some scratching their heads but it is what it is. I don't sign on as Dave Ubercollector Pizza instead of Dave Pizza, but I believe this is what is called a chase. Or something.

Taking Another Look at the Harry Potter LEGO Video Games

I’m not totally certain when it started, but back in the old school days of Nintendo Wii, maybe PC, there was a very exciting release of Harry Potter books/films 1-4 and eventually 5-7. Today, you can play these games on so many platforms that I probably don’t even need to tell you what they are, because you probably have one.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is Still One of Nintendo’s Top Games (For a Reason)

This game is for Nintendo Switch only! I should have mentioned that. In fact, this game is essentially the major reason I now have a Nintendo Switch. There are so many good games for Switch that are perfectly mindful and low stress, but the media circling around how wonderful this game actually did sell me in a moment of post-materialistic rebellion that I actually don’t really regret. This game took me to a new realm of peaceful gameplaying.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: One of the Most Popular Mario Games Ever!

I've been in love with Mario Kart since its humble beginnings on SNES. That is true up until today with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It is truly a testament to the highest casual gaming standard held for games of its genre. That said, Mario Kart doesn't exactly have "competitors," mind you. Aside from some sincere efforts from Nickelodeon, Garfield, and Hello Kitty racers, but this game is a labor of love. This game certainly fits with any wish list of the mindful but playful gamer, or really anybody who has liked anything Nintendo has ever done.
