Jack Move is High Energy Fun With Cyberpunk Thrills

I'd brushed the proximity of Jack Move several times this year. Seeing it here, seeing it there, probably even passing up a demo. When I just had to have the Tactics and RPG turn-based bundle from Humble Bundle this month, I got a chance to play it. Turns out Jack Move, the pixel graphic cyberpunk RPG, is a fantastic, well-paced and interesting adventure. Here are my first impressions of the game along with sentiments from the community. Let me just start by saying Jack Move stands tall amongst other turn-based combat games by being full of action yet having a…

Terraria – First Impressions of an Indie Survival Classic

Terraria is simply one of the most catchy niche games ever made, yet I hadn't ever played it until just recently. The gameplay is engaging and the pixel art graphic style is pretty satisfying. It has a simple premise that matches other survival craft games, like Minecraft, that being: build a fort, fight or hide, and survive--then just keep building and building and building. And though I only put effort into one aspect during my test run, that is building a room with doors, I can see the appeal of this flexible crafting game. I'll go over a few impressions…

Travellers Rest Has All I Want in an Innkeeping Sim

Grab your mop, bring your Stardew Valley membership card, and head into olden times with Travellers Rest. Yes, I literally just started this game, so I'll continue to update this as time goes on, but I'm already hooked. I do in fact still love that old classic Stardew Valley, a basic grounding point for this game. But I have also enjoyed the medieval theme of RPG's for a long time. The concept is about the same in some ways, especially visually, but self-reliance as a medieval innkeeper is the hook that brought me to Travellers Rest. I hope to share…

Inkbound is a Fantastic Indie MMO & Magical Rogue-Like You’ll Love!

MMORPGs get tossed into the indie content spin room all the time these days, generally with a slight irreverence. Inkbound is different though, it has A LOT of potential. I sat down with the game at my PC to test out a new character in this magical book-themed MMO. Is Inkbound actually "a world" yet? Yes--and a plentiful one--which I'm still exploring the depths of. A couple of important facts: This early access is available through Steam on Windows. It IS online, it IS an MMO, you can play with other players, but you don't have to... Also, like most…

Revisiting: Black Skylands – an Amazing Accomplishment in Game Design

Black Skylands is an immersive fantasy skypunk RPG that takes place in the colorful airborne landscapes of another world. As an indie gamer, this is indeed one of the most optimistic projects I've looked at, and yet very promising indeed. Take the helm of a family airship and float between islands in the sky to claim your stake. This review was sponsored by a free copy, which I am really grateful for, so let's g

Potion Craft Tips, Tricks, and Secrets You Need

Getting started with Potion Craft can be intriguing and fun but also confusing--by nature. The game features role playing game elements mixed with strategy and casual gameplay. It's one of the hottest games out there for alchemy sims, but quickly has become a diverse favorite for gamers. I've taken some time to compile some tips and tricks I think are essential to the full release version of this game and will guide you through some of the basics before you're ready to move onto the esoteric full-of-secrets-adventure that is Potion Craft. Anyway, there is a lot to get through but…

How to Play Wingspan – A Tutorial for Beginners

Wingspan is an exciting concept from top to bottom. It involves all manner of birds in either a card-driven board game or a cross-platform video game--both essentially based on the same original concept. Bird lovers want everything to do with this game, me included, and with the different ways to play, who can resist? Still, after my initial foray into Wingspan, I was thrilled with the bird trivia and different mechanics and rules, but it was a little confusing. If you're more of a casual gamer like me, you might just want to flap your wings and move on. Don't…

How to Cheat in Untitled Goose Game With Mods

There's no question that as cozy and casual as Untitled Goose Game is, it's still pretty difficult. I don't judge people for using cheat mods, I show them how to use them safely. Today, I've got a great cheat mod for Untitled Goose Game that you need to try out if you're on PC and love modding indie games. I'll walk you through the steps of updating Nexus Mods for BepInEx so you can install the mod, and then simple instructions for getting the mod to download with Vortex. If this sounds complicated, it's really not and you'll be ready…

Does Cuphead Have an Easy Mode? Not Really, but Kind of…

Is there really a Cuphead easy mode? The legendary game Cuphead, as we know it, harks back to a potent generation of ambitious indie breakthroughs. Yes, back in good old 2017, it was released on Steam and Xbox with others after for our joy--and perhaps torment. Incidentally, this is the main, if not the only, game to ever really nail down the vintage hand-drawn style with such success. The first time I'd ever seen it, I imagined it not just as maybe being one of the greatest games ever made, but also as a fulfillment I'd desired for years of…

Hollow Knight is Charmingly Spooky, and an Award-Winning Classic

If you want a game not confined to an era or trend or anything really, you might want to check out Hollow Knight. Gamers have branded it indie without hesitancy, but it's something much more than that. It manages to caste a dim light into the shadows left by predecessors In a world--run by bugs--in a dingy old cave: where despite a gloomy mournful environment lies adventure. Hollow Knight Takes You Into a Lucid Dreamworld--OR a Nightmare, Depending on Your Perspective Imagine going into your basement and turning off the lights. Then put on a soundtrack from any macabre Burtonesque…
